Romance, Mystery, and Ghostly Intrigue: Why The Mirror by Nora Roberts is a Must-Read

Series: The Lost Bride Trilogy (Book 2)

Book Blurb:

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts continues the hauntingly spectacular Lost Bride Trilogy with book two, The Mirror.

When Sonya MacTavish inherits the huge Victorian mansion on the coast of Maine, she has no idea that the house is haunted. The footsteps she hears at night, the doors slamming, the music playing, are not figments of her imagination. In her dreams she sees glimpses of the past. In the present she finds portraits of brides. And when she has visions of an antique mirror, she is drawn to it, sensing it holds dark family secrets.

Then one night the mirror appears and Sonya glides through this looking glass, into the past―and sees a bride murdered on her wedding day, the circle of gold torn from her finger. It is a scene that will play out again and again―a centuries-old curse that must be broken―and a puzzle she must solve if there is any hope of breaking the curse.

My Review:

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Nora Roberts strikes again! In The Mirror, the second book in The Lost Bride Trilogy, Roberts masterfully blends romance, mystery, and a touch of the supernatural into a story that’s as captivating as it is emotionally satisfying. Her ability to weave these elements together is simply unmatched, and this book kept me glued to the pages from start to finish.

Let me break down why The Mirror is a must-read:

Top 5 Reasons to Read The Mirror

1. Ghosts with Depth:

The ghosts in this story are more than just spooky figures—they have rich histories and backstories that intertwine beautifully with the present-day plot. Their presence adds a layer of intrigue and mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

2. A New Romance:

The budding relationship in The Mirror is so heartwarming. The characters are relatable, their chemistry is undeniable, and watching their connection unfold was one of my favorite parts of the book.

3. A Furry Friend:

Who doesn’t love a story with an adorable pet? The introduction of a new furry companion adds warmth and charm to the narrative, delivering those “aww” moments we all need.

4. A Party for the Ages:

The grand party scene is an absolute showstopper. It’s packed with drama, revelations, and unforgettable moments that set the stage for the book’s thrilling climax. This is the kind of scene that will have you holding your breath and eagerly flipping pages.

5. An Engaging, Twist-Filled Plot:

Nora Roberts is a queen of intricate storytelling, and The Mirror is no exception. The balance of romance, mystery, and supernatural intrigue creates a plot that’s unpredictable and deeply satisfying.

Why I Loved It

Simply put, The Mirror has everything I crave in a book: a compelling plot, complex characters, and a world that feels so vivid, it’s like stepping right into the story. I was especially drawn to the rich backstory of the ghosts, which added an extra layer of mystery. The romance? Pure magic—sweet, believable, and utterly swoon-worthy. And let’s not forget the new pet, whose antics brought a delightful lightness to the story.

Then there’s the party scene. It’s the moment that ties everything together, and I found myself savoring every dramatic twist and emotional revelation. Roberts’ knack for creating unforgettable scenes shines here, making it a standout moment in the book.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of Nora Roberts or just dipping your toes into her work, The Mirror is a story you won’t want to miss. It’s a perfect blend of heartfelt romance, spine-tingling mystery, and a touch of the otherworldly. I absolutely loved it, and I can’t wait for the final book in The Lost Bride Trilogy.

I don’t think that I’ve read any Nora Roberts but this one definitely sounds worth picking up. I’ll have to investigate the first book and see if I can get hold of a copy.

I’ve ordered the first one from the library. It might not be my thing though as it’s shelved under horror which I don’t generally enjoy. 😳

There are ghosts – most friendly and one very much not – but I wouldn’t call it horror by any stretch

I was a teeny bit disappointed that nothing happened with breaking the curse. I loved the flashback scenes to the past.
