The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.
Question:
Have you ever participated in NaNoWriMo? If yes, how did it go?
(submitted by Kristin @ Lukten av Trykksverte)
Answer:
YES! I won in 2018 and 2019 and I’m doing it again this year. The rules are pretty flexible. The goal is to write 50,000 words in one month. Some people write and some people edit. I am doing a combination of writing and editing this year.

In 2018, I wrote the rough, rough draft of my first complete novel. But through doing my book blog (and reading so many incredible books), I just knew my story was missing some very key elements.

In 2019, I basically reworked and rewrote my novel since the key components I felt it needed changed the whole story. That took my story to well over 50,000 words. It is more around 80,000 words. I completed all but 7 scenes during NaNoWriMo 2019.
So, now, 2020 – I plan on finishing those 7 scenes then doing a read through to check and make sure my plot is working with those changes and it hasn’t gotten disjointed in the process. And then I will do a basic edit to get rid of typos and other basic fixes like that.

What’s going to happen after that? 🤷🏻♀️
Have you ever participated in NaNoWriMo or even had the urge to write a book?

Congrats! Good luck with this year’s Nanowrimo~ 🍀 To answer the question, never participated, though I did have the urge once or twice in my life to write a book but never got far with it and gave up.
For me, that’s what it was good for – it forced me to sit down and write out my ideas until finally I had a book. ❤️
That sounds great! I am glad it worked for you. I think I am just not meant to be writer though, or well, not of books. I will just keep to ideas, blogging, and some poetry here and there.
All writing is great ❤️
Best wishes this year. I write more than 50K words/month for my day job, so I don’t participate in NaNo, but I love watching everyone report on their progress. Looking forward to hearing good things!
I can understand that ❤️. I look forward to finishing!
Kudos to you, Tessa💜
Thank you! 🙏
Between work, where I write copy for our company’s website, and blogging now, I write well over 50,000 words a month. I tried NaNoWriMo last year but it was a last minute decision and had no idea what my story was, so I only made it about 15,000 pages. If I ever figure out the story better, I’ll participate again. Congratulations and good luck this year!
I didn’t plan the first time and sort of free wrote everyday until the path became clear. Last year and this year were well planned out…thank Scrivener for that ❤️. Thank you!
I won in 2018. I participated last year, but didn’t win. This year I’m in a virtual writing retreat so I’m writing every day, but not with any word count goal. Sending you good vibes to finish the book this year, Tessa!
Enjoy you virtual writing retreat! It sounds like a lot of fun and thank you ❤️
Well if you break it down 50k words divided by 30 days in Nov = 1,666.66666666667 words per day. That’s too many 6’s in a row, seems like a bad omen! jk Ha ha. Happy Friday.
Ha ha! I now feel better about my approach which is sometimes just a few hundred words a day and some times it’s a few thousand. I wouldn’t want to incite what all those 6s implies 😜. Happy Friday!
Good for you, Tessa, for taking advantage of Nanowrimo! It’s exhausting, but worth it. I’m excited to hear that you have a book in progress and wish you luck. 🙂 I’ve participated 3 times and found it a great motivator as well as an effective excuse for telling the family why I HAVE to write instead of vacuuming dog hair and doing laundry. I’m sitting out this year, but suspect I’ll do it again in the future. Happy Writing!
It is exhausting but the whole approach motivates my type A personality. And I totally agree with the fact that when you are busy writing there is just no time for chores. I believe I may have used that excuse yesterday 🙂
Lol. Keep it up.
Nanowrimo….I tried in the past but it just did not go. Maybe I did it wrong? Or wasn’t motivated? Maybe I could try again. I have written some stuff but I need to finish it up. I have a trilogy I’m working on which is taking forever. The ideas are there but just got to fill it up..haha Then I have like three other ideas that are different. My brain is always coming up with stories.
Your brain sounds like my brain too – everything is a story. NaNoWriMo works for me because I am very goal-oriented, so being behind on words is just not acceptable in my brain. I found that using the NaNoWriMo prep tools really helped me last year. You may try looking at those https://nanowrimo.org/nano-prep-101
I’ll check it out! Thank you. 🙂
Fingers crossed for you to win again this year. I have hundreds of great ideas for ways to start a book – it’s just the middle and end that elude me!
I wonder if you could make them into short stories? You could do a collection of short stories which are novel starters ❤️
Best of luck! I recently heard about NaNoWriMo and have been toying with the idea of giving it a try.
You should! It’s a lot of fun imo 😁
[…] Book Blogger Hop – the question was: Have you ever participated in NaNoWriMo? […]
I had every intention of doing it this year, and then we decided to sell our apartment and buy another one, so I’m stuck packing and getting things ready instead of doing this… Oh well…
There is always camp in July or this event next year. Good luck on your move! I know moving can be very stressful.
Omg wow that’s exciting. You write? Wow
I do write. How well I write is a whole other question but I do try ❤️
