Book Blogger Hop | Books Have Changed Me, or Have They?

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

Question:

How have books changed you the most?

(submitted by Julie @ JadeSky)

Answer:

I’ve been pondering this question all week. Have books changed me, or have they enhanced what was already there? Since I’ve been reading and read to my entire life, it is tough to say. It’s almost a nature vs. nurture type of question.

I think books have allowed my imagination to soar well beyond what it would have if I didn’t read so much. I have performed magic, walked among the elves, and visited lands that dreams are made of. And, because of books, I don’t feel restricted from exploring my imagination. Books are my stress relief and my ability to find joy when life is crumbling around me.

That is how books have changed me or enhanced what was already there is probably more accurate. Books have allowed me to think in ways that are not restricted by convention or reality. They have allowed me to soar.

I have to agree with you. I can’t imagine my life without books because they have always been there. I do think they have enhanced it in a lot of ways although the book buying addiction can be a problem that I could do without!

So true! I was looking at my book haul for my Sunday post and was shocked about how many books I bought on sale this week. Yikes!

Books are why I’m always a work in progress. My tastes are eclectic so I read a wide range of genres. Consequently, my opinions and positions are always evolving. And, as they now come in digital options, they’ve shaped my habits. More chores get done because they audiobook listening opportunities😏

    Great question!

That’s very interesting. I think I mostly notice the ideas that reaffirm my own but perhaps my opinions are being slowly changed. I could see that is possible.

Yep… I love this answer! You are so right.. books have just always been there! I can’t imagine what life would be like if they hadn’t… much smaller that’s for sure!

If not for books, I don’t know what I’d do with myself. They’ve taken me on some wondrous journeys. And also given me an edge in trivia games occasionally. It’s amazing the types of useless knowledge my brain retains, but I can’t remember the name of someone I met five minutes earlier.

To true! Facts I get from books tend to stay locked in my brain much longer than they do when I just see a headline, post, or article.

I like your answer and would agree 100% with what you said. It’s also true of me. My life is so much richer because of books and the ability to let my imagination soar.

My imagination would be nothing like it is if I only had movies and tv to encourage it. Books are great for flexing that creative muscle 🙂

I struggled with how to answer this question too for a similar reason–I am not sure change is the right word, but rather improved or bettered or–as you said, enhanced–what was already there. I love that through books I can experience different lifestyles and visit places I will likely never be able to in real life. I hope you have a great weekend!

Yeah, I kept thinking I don’t know of any change per say but books have definitely made my life better ❤️

Since I spend all my free time either reading, writing a book and book blogging I would say books not only changed but actually ARE my life 🙂 great post 🙂
