WWW Wednesday | What Am I Reading This Week- 4/14/2021?

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived on Taking on a World of Words.

The Three Ws are:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

My Reading Week

I started out my week with Kate in Waiting. I’m reading it for a The Write Reads blog tour. My feelings are all over the place about this one. It’s a cute plot but its overuse of cuss words is not cute. I would say it would more appeal to younger YA but parents wouldn’t approve of the language. This is going to be a challenging review to write.

Today, I move on to Dead Secret by Noelle Holten. If you are on instagram, you should totally check out her account. She cracks me up many days. I loved Dead Perfect by her – it is a very good mystery/thriller – so I’m looking forward to delving into this one.

Next, I’m reading Gilded Serpent by Danielle Jensen. Do you see that cover? I’m madly in love with it. I read and reviewed the first two books in this YA Fantasy series – Dark Shores and Dark Skies and loved them. There is a pirate-type plot-line with magic that is so interesting. I can’t wait to start this book but first I’ll have to stop staring at that cover.

What are you reading this week? Anything that you’re particularly excited about?

Kate in Waiting by Becky Albertalli

  • Genre: YA Romantic Comedy
  • Print Length: 400 pgs
  • Publisher: Penguin UK
  • Publication Date: April 20, 2021

Book Description

From #1 New York Times bestselling author and rom-com queen Becky Albertalli comes a buoyant new novel about daring to step out of the shadows and into the spotlight in love, life, and, yes, theater.

Contrary to popular belief, best friends Kate Garfield and Anderson Walker are not codependent. Carpooling to and from theater rehearsals? Environmentally sound and efficient. Consulting each other on every single life decision? Basic good judgment. Pining for the same guys from afar? Shared crushes are more fun anyway.

But when Kate and Andy’s latest long-distance crush shows up at their school, everything goes off-script. Matt Olsson is talented and sweet, and Kate likes him. She really likes him. The only problem? So does Anderson.

Turns out, communal crushes aren’t so fun when real feelings are involved. This one might even bring the curtains down on Kate and Anderson’s friendship.

Gilded Serpent by Danielle Jensen

  • Genre: YA Fantasy
  • Print Length: 568 pgs
  • Publisher: Tor Teen
  • Publication Date: April 27, 2021

Book Description

From bestselling author Danielle L. Jensen comes a thrilling new novel in the Dark Shores world, a series that Sarah J. Maas called “everything I look for in a fantasy novel.”

THEIR BATTLES ENDED IN VICTORY

Lydia returns to Mudaire to enter training at the healing temple. But instead of fighting to save lives, she’s convinced she is doing more harm than good. She delves into the history of the gods only to discover a truth that will change her life forever.

His birthright as commander of the Royal Army is finally in his grasp, but Killian feels anything but victorious. Burdened by his past, he embraces the darker side of his mark—and in doing so, risks starting a war.

BUT THE WAR HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN

Having defeated the tyrant Urcon, Marcus struggles to form a lasting alliance with the Arinoquians. But he is plagued by the knowledge that there is a traitor among his friends, and it could cost him everything that he’s fought for.

Torn between her growing allegiance to the Thirty-Seventh legion and her need to liberate her people, Teriana finds herself mired in a web of secrets. She embarks upon a path that will either save everyone she loves—or put them all in their graves.

Agree with you about Katie In Waiting. A cute story but just wasn’t for me. Wrote and scheduled my post on the weekend and I struggled with writing the review too! Look forward to reading your thoughts on it soon!! ♥️♥️

It is puzzling to me almost like it’s struggling to find its identity as a story if that makes any sense.

Yeah I know exactly what you mean!! I put down to being a bit too old for this particular story 😅

I focused on the things I did like and made a little paragraph mentioning a few of my critiques. I probably won’t include a rating.

Gilded Serpent is a long one! Hope you enjoy your upcoming reads, Tessa. Happy reading! 💜

I noticed that too. Luckily, I will be reading it over the weekend. ❤️

Three very different reads, Tessa. It’s great that you enjoy so many varied genres. I’m pretty much the same, but lately I’ve been devouring psychological thrillers left and right. I’m currently reading The Drowning Kind by Jennifer McMahon. She’s one of my auto-buy authors.

I’ll be looking forward to your reviews on these three!

I want to read Gilded Serpent!! I am still waiting for book number two of the series to be out here in the UK! I am dying to know what happens…

    1. Tessa Avatar

Me too! I can’t wait to start it. It always amazes me when publication dates and book covers are different in the UK as compared to the US. I wonder why they do that.

Me too! I’m an avid YA reader and it’s getting difficult to find certain titles… Like The Infinity Courts, it’s not sold on book shops, not even on Amazon…

  5. Teri Polen Avatar

I love The Gilded Serpent cover. I don’t know how I ever missed this series.
