#BookBloggerHop | Book Budget poll

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

Question:

Do you have a monthly/yearly budget for books? Or are you a “what’s a book budget?” kind of reader?

(submitted by Nicci @ Sunny Buzzy Books)

Answer:

I never really had a book budget, even when we were first married and just starting out career-wise. That was one of the things my husband quickly realized about me – when it comes to books, I do what I need to do.

Now that’s not to say that I go crazy and spend lots of money. I’ve always had restraint and am a big fan of the public library system. I know when I’m spending more than I should, and I hold back.

I’m trying the poll block, so if it works and you see it – please try it with me 😊. (I don’t think it’s visible in WordPress Reader, only if you go to the site 🤷🏻‍♀️) You also are welcome to comment as always. You all know how I love chatting ❤️

I too am careful while dealing with budget especially with these difficult times. I wait for a sale or just let go nowadays. Buying essential and other things are more important

I love ebook sales – anywhere from free to $2.99. Even if I had a set budget, I could get a ton of great reads for those low prices ❤️

Hope you are doing as best as possible. I haven’t heard anything lately, but I know it’s been awful in India. Thinking of you! 🤗

Thank you. It is worse than awful so many children orphaned. Mass Graves, bodies floating in rivers, deaths every second along with a fungal epidemic in some states. It is some kind of hell where I am crying most days. Hence I have not been able yo focus much

Totally understandable. I will be continuing to do anything and everything I can. ❤️❤️❤️

I’ve never had a book budget. When I was a kid, my parents always encouraged reading, so were happy to buy or help me buy as many books as I wanted. But I’ve always been a bit miserly, so if I can get a book from the library or a second hand shop, I would do that. Now my husband likes to spoil me and gets me all the books I want, even when I tell him not to.

You know, I think that maybe I’ve never set a book budget because my parents were the same as yours. They budgeted many things, but when it came to buying books for me – they never said no.

We don’t have a book budget either, and like you, we are huge fans of the public library system. Books are expensive! Plus, who likes to buy a book just to end up hating it? I rarely take a chance on buying books unless they’re favorite authors or highly recommended from friends. 😉

    1. Tessa Avatar

Same! If it’s a new to me author – I go the path of the library. It’s better to really not like a book that’s free. 🤗

I don’t have a book budget, but I get tons from NetGalley and the library, so I never feel guilty when buying them. Especially when I go to book festivals.

    1. Tessa Avatar

Book festivals – I would definitely spend a lot there! But like you, I get tons of NetGalley books (too many) and the library is my friend ❤️

I’ve never really budgeted anything. If I had, I might have a lot more money now. 🙂

    1. Tessa Avatar

Lol. I bet many can say the same! ❤️

I don’t have a budget but do keep a check on what I’m spending and try not to spend too much each month. Local libraries don’t carry many ebooks, at least not one’s I’d bother with.

    1. Tessa Avatar

That’s a shame about the library. Mine carries lots and provides membership to a service that provides ebooks. If it didn’t, it wouldn’t be much use to me.

Book budget? What is this strange thing of which you speak? There are certain necessities in life—food, water, books! 🙂

    1. Tessa Avatar

Right? I had never heard of such a thing until this prompt. It’s all manners of craziness 😊

  8. Jonetta (Ejaygirl) | Blue Mood Café Avatar

Nope. No book budget. But! I get most of my books from the library or publishers.

    1. Tessa Avatar

The libraries are great! As are the very kind publishers that feed are reading needs ❤️

I started a book budget last month, and so far, I’m doing good! We’ll see how long that lasts haha

    1. Tessa Avatar

I applaud you! I don’t know that I could handle a book budget. Hope it continues to go well ❤️

I’ve had a book budget for just over a year now as my husband was furloughed for a while and now we’re trying to save up to re-do our living room. He’s on a record buying budget too so it’s fair but it’s hard when there’s lots of new releases we both want!

    1. Tessa Avatar

It definitely sounds fair, and what a wonderful goal! You will have to make sure you design the perfect reading spot when you redo your living room 😉

Now you see, that’s another problem we have here in good old South Africa. Public Libraries. Here and there you will find a small town with a good public library, but it’s really more there than here. We do 2 great secondhand bookshops in our little town, but the public library is well, I don’t even know where it is! If that’s a clear enough answer for you!

My husband also just looks at me when I arrive home with a new loot, he knows it makes me happy and we all know the saying – happy wife…

Hope you are enjoying a good weekend!

I’m learning so much about South Africa from you. That’s a shame that there’s not a more consistently good public library system. I think everywhere in the US has a pretty comparable library. It’s usually handled by individual counties in each state and even the smallest of towns have one and usually in a prominent place. At least that’s been my experience.
And, your husband is a very smart man!
