#WWWWednesday – August 11th | What Are You Reading?

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived on Taking on a World of Words.

The Three Ws are:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

I was able to get a break from thrillers and now I am ready to read Where I Left Her. I’ve read another book be Garza that I enjoyed, so I am bound to like this one too. As usual, I am starting this one today.

Where I Left Her by Amber Garza

  • Genre: Domestic Thriller
  • Print Length: 248 pgs
  • Publisher: MIRA
  • Publication Date: August 24, 2021
From the author of When I Was You comes a spine-tingling new thriller about a mother’s worst nightmare come true, when her teenage daughter goes to a sleepover and doesn’t come back. Whitney had some misgivings when she dropped her increasingly moody teenage daughter, Amelia, off at Lauren’s house. She’d never met the parents, and usually she’d go in, but Amelia clearly wasn’t going to let something so humiliating happen, so instead Whitney waved to her daughter before pulling away from the little house with the roses in front. But when she goes back the next day, an elderly couple answers the door—Amelia and Lauren aren’t there, and this couple swears they never were, that she’s at the wrong house. As Whitney searches for Amelia, she uncovers a trail of lies her daughter has told her—from the Finsta account to rumors of a secret relationship. Does she really even know this girl she’s raised? And Amelia’s not the only one with secrets. Could Whitney’s own demons have something to do with her daughter’s disappearance, and can Whitney find her before it’s too late?

This is the author that wrote the series I Am Number 4. It was also made into a movie. This new story is interesting. It takes place on another planet and the main character is a 16 year old boy who is half human and half alien. Some of the dialogue is a bit forced and too trying to be teenager speak but the plot is very interesting and held my attention.

Ashfall Legacy by Pittacus Lore

  • Genre: YA SciFy
  • Print Length: 431 pgs
  • Publisher: Harper Collins
  • Publication: August 17, 2021
We have waited generations for you… Syd Chambers knows that there’s life on other planets because he’s descended from it. His father was from a distant world called Denza and has been missing—presumed dead—for years. When Syd discovers a device his father left behind which shows not only that he’s alive, but where he is, Syd must set out on a mission of his own. But along the way, he discovers a deadly, unbearable secret that could destroy Denza, Earth, and the universe.

The publisher moved the publication date up on me. I wish there was an easy way to notify people who have it on NetGalley. I just happened to be looking over my list and saw that it had moved up from where it originally was, so I went ahead and moved it up on my schedule. I think this will be a good one 🙂

The Family Plot by Megan Collins

  • Genre: Gothic Thriller
  • Print Length: 320 pgs
  • Publisher: Atria Books
  • Publication Date: August 17, 2021
At twenty-six, Dahlia Lighthouse is haunted by her upbringing. Raised in a secluded island mansion deep in the woods and kept isolated by her true crime-obsessed parents, she is unable to move beyond the disappearance of her twin brother, Andy, when they were sixteen. After several years away and following her father’s death, Dahlia returns to the house, where the family makes a gruesome discovery: buried in their father’s plot is another body—Andy’s, his skull split open with an ax. Dahlia is quick to blame Andy’s murder on the serial killer who terrorized the island for decades, while the rest of her family reacts to the revelation in unsettling ways. Her brother, Charlie, pours his energy into creating a family memorial museum, highlighting their research into the lives of famous murder victims; her sister, Tate, forges ahead with her popular dioramas portraying crime scenes; and their mother affects a cheerfully domestic facade, becoming unrecognizable as the woman who performed murder reenactments for her children. As Dahlia grapples with her own grief and horror, she realizes that her eccentric family, and the mansion itself, may hold the answers to what happened to her twin.

What are you reading this week? Anything that you’re particularly excited about?

I enjoyed When I Was You as well and enjoyed Where I Left Her just as much. Garza’s books are so much fun to read. I hope you enjoy it!

I’ll start it a little later today. Can’t wait. Glad to hear you loved it ❤️

All three of these sound great 😊 I’m reading the new home by chris merritt at the moment 💕

Ooo…that one looks good. I love the teaser on the cover – You never know what’s behind closed doors.

It is really good so far 😊

My son loved the Pitacus Lore books. I wonder if he’d like this new one?

I think he may. It’s got some great twists at the end and the way it stopped seemed like there would be more maybe. It’s got an environmental issues thread which is very timely and it’s done very interestingly. I enjoyed it and I also enjoyed the whole series of I am Four.

Fab I’ll definitely let him know about it!

I have Where I Left Her coming up next week so I can’t wait to see what you think. I’m also thinking about adding The Family Plot and will wait on your review.

I’ve heard wonderful things about both, so my fingers are crossed and my hopes are high ❤️

I Am Number Four was (partially) filmed in my hometown. The new book sounds interesting, but the teen-speak would bug me. The two thrillers sound amazing. (Bet that doesn’t surprise you.)

Either I got used to the dialogue or it got better. I’m not sure which. But it did stand out early on. Story was really good though. Great twists and totally relevant for the world today. And those thrillers do look good ❤️

I didn’t like this one as much as I loved When I Was You. I am trying to get back into the reading game after not being able to focus since last weekend, Thank goodness I was ahead on most of my ARCs, but I missed one publication day review last Tuesday. Hoping to finish it tonght.

You just needed time for you. I would be the same way. Fur babies definitely are as much a part of your heart as people if not more. 🤗🤗🤗. Glad you are able to get back to reading.

I’ve seen The Family Plot around here and there, and it’s on my reading radar. It sounds excellent. I also like the sound of Where I Left Her.

I just finished a haunted house story and I’m currently reading a book I probably should have DNF’d. But I’m too invested now. Even though it’s plodding, I need to see how it ends. Hopefully, it will redeem itself before it’s over!

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

I have high hopes for both.
Once you make it to a certain point, you might as well finish it. I do that too.

Where I left her sounds interesting. I loved Emma’s Tapestry, especially since it was a true story. I love any story where the female main character is the one in charge of their own life. What am I going to read? I’m not sure – I’m between books at the moment. I might even reread some of my Harry Potter books. While I say I’m in between books, I am enjoying reading all the word prompt stories and poems. I think I’m doing anything rather than edit my latest book. There are so many plot holes I do not know where to start.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

I know that feeling as my manuscript sits off to the side gathering dust. I’m so glad you enjoyed Emma’s Tapestry. I agree that Emma is a person that strives to make the best of things.

She does, but has strength too.

Where I Left Her gives me chills – can’t imagine that happening. I read a few books of the I Am Number Four series and requested Ashfall, but was turned down. Glad you’re enjoying it!

Where I Left Her is giving me chills reading it too. Every parents worst nightmare.

I don’t read much Sci-Fi, but Ashfall Legacy sounds pretty good. Hope you enjoy all your upcoming reads. Right now I’m still reading last week’s reads. 😆 Reading has really slowed for me. I hope to get back on track soon.

It’s a fun kind of read. Might even be a choice to read with your kids. 🤔

Currently reading The Unhoneymooners, so good so far! 🙂

I’ve heard good things about it. Happy reading!

I will be reading Amber Garza’s book this week as well. Enjoy your reads this week, Tessa.

I liked it okay, there is much about the story that is very compelling, but after having read Stolen though…well, I don’t think it lived up to much that Stolen provided in a story. Hope you enjoy it!

      1. Carla Avatar

That is the problem when you read a great story, others can’t measure up. I will give it a bit before I read it so I am not clouded.
