#BookBloggerHop | Books Signed By The Author

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

Have you ever gotten a book signed by the author?

Oh my gosh, YES!

I low-key collect signed books and have grabbed them whenever I have the opportunity.

My first ever signed book was the collection of poetry by James Dickey (picture #2). You may remember him for his book Deliverance which became a famous movie that is referred to still today. I was gifted it by Dickey as part of my university’s award for being the best student in the English department. James Dickey was the artist in residence that year.

I met James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell, Charles Frazier (in person), and Terry Goodkind (virtually) and had their books signed after hearing them speak. Those were big fan moments for sure. My husband asked Jeff Wheeler to send me a copy of the first book I reviewed of his, The Killing Fog, since he featured it on his facebook page.

The big stack of YA Fantasy books in picture #1 all came through my monthly Fairy Loot box and not only are they signed but they have colored edges and other gorgeous attributes like foil and crazy beautiful illustrations on the inside of the cover.

The rest of the books, the one in the pretty box (picture #3) and the Evanovich and Reichs books (picture #1) were all gifted to me by my husband.

Do you have any books signed by the author ?

Exciting! I’ve got a few signed books that I’ve pre-ordered through Waterstones and from an author via Twitter.

I’ve never seen that option on Twitter. I’m probably just no paying enough attention. That’s very cool ♥️

Like you, I have several FairyLoot novels. I also have a few signed novels I won in giveaways. I would love to own more signed books by my favourite authors but when the special and signed editions cost double of what I’d pay ordinarily (usually because of shipping costs), I always bow out before buying cos I just can’t justify the extra expense to myself 😅

Aren’t the Fairy Loot books gorgeous? I just love looking at them and all that attention given to make them so lovely.

      1. Kelly Avatar

They are! I put them backwards on my shelves so I can see the spredges 😂

That’s really great. I have few books signed by author particularly those sent to me for review.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

That’s always nice for authors to send signed editions of their books. I had one author promise me one, but it never came and I was surprised by how truly disappointed I was. I wanted to add it to my collection. But, oh, well!

I have won a couple in competitions and I found a surprise one in a book I purchased recently. It always makes me smile and I get really excited. 😊

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

What a great surprise! I would have been over the moon.

I’ve won some and been sent some as thank yous, I’ve also got a few from a signing event. I haven’t managed to attend a convention where the authors give talks, I hope I can do that some time in the future. The Fairly Loot box books are absolutely gorgeous but the books your husband has acquired are probably the best ones!

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

I love going to author talks. Even if I haven’t read the book they are mostly talking about, I find them fascinating. And, my husband does have a knack for giving me beloved gifts ❤️❤️❤️

  6. Staci Troilo Avatar

I have signed books from friends, but not from anyone famous. Your collection is impressive.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

Thank you! They were all fun to get. You must love your signed editions from friends. What a nice thought ❤️

      1. Staci Troilo Avatar

I treasure every single one of them.

I have several books signed by the authors. We have a well-attended bookfest locally and I’ve gotten several copies there. I also saw Stephen King speak in Nashville and got a signed copy I treasure all of those books.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

Hearing Stephen King speak must have been very interesting.

      1. Teri Polen Avatar

Fascinating. Hubby isn’t a fan but even he enjoyed it.

  8. nsfordwriter Avatar

I have a few, including John Green, Philip Pullman, Sally Gardner, Robert Rankin, Eric Idle and Paul Weller. But not met any authors in person!

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

Your signed copies makes me realize how much I would love to meet Philip Pullman in person. I bet his talks are fascinating. That’s a nice collection you have ❤️

      1. nsfordwriter Avatar

I would be too intimidated and wouldn’t know what to say! I don’t actively collect signed copies but if they are the same price as an unsigned copy, or they turn up in a charity shop, then why not? 🙂

Fabulous collection Tessa. What a thoughtful gift from your husband.💜I have yet to get a signed book. Maybe one day…

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

Hopefully soon. It’s such a cool experience and authors are almost always such lovely people as well as great story tellers!

What a great collection of signed books. I don’t have any books signed by the author. But, I don’t have many physical books either.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

That would be interesting to have a signed ebook. Easy but I would always be worried that it would disappear into the great unknown of the cyber world.

  11. Mae Clair Avatar

You have quite the collection, Tessa. That’s awesome!
I only have a handful of signed books—two by Preston & Child, one by Jim Butcher, and several by author friends. They all hold spots of honor on my bookshelf.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

The two by Preston & Child are way cool and the ones by author friends I’m sure have a special place in your heart ❤️

  12. Julie Anna's Books Avatar

Ooh, you have quite the collection! I just started a FairyLoot subscription and I also have a few other signed books I’ve picked up when they have them in bookstores.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

Fairy Loot books are all so pretty. Now, I just need to find the time to read the ones I didn’t as ARCs!

      1. Julie Anna's Books Avatar

Haha yes! I’m trying to read them as I get them but it’s hard 😅

  13. stargazer Avatar

That sounds like a nice collection! I can safely say, I don’t have any signed copies of anything. Since I mostly read ebooks and audiobooks, I guess it would be a bit challenging…

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

Definitely! I could imagine a day when that would be possible though. Interesting scify kind of imaginings ❤️

  14. swordsandspectres Avatar

I do love my signed copies. I’ve never gone out of my way to get them, but they’re appreciated nonetheless

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

I appreciate mine very much too. I think it is so cool to have a signed copy.

  15. Mischenko Avatar

That’s so cool that you’ve met that many authors! I’ve only met a couple, and they weren’t super popular. The book box autographed books are fun to collect as well. Great topic! 😀

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

I’ve been very fortunate. The library does a lot and so does Davidson College and the local bookstore which are both right up the street, literally. They bring so many popular authors to the area. It’s very cool.

  16. Flora Avatar

I’m quietly collecting signed books too, Tessa. I went to my first ever book signing event back in 2019 and came home with quite a few. Thanks for sharing your treasures with us. X

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

I truly cherish them. It’s so special to have them and the memories of when you get them ❤️
