I can’t wait to start Iron Widow later today. I’ve already heard wonderful things about it ❤️
Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao
Genre: YA Fantasy
Print Length: 400 pgs
Publisher: Penguin Teen
Publication Date: September 21, 2021
The boys of Huaxia dream of pairing up with girls to pilot Chrysalises, giant transforming robots that can battle the mecha aliens that lurk beyond the Great Wall. It doesn’t matter that the girls often die from the mental strain.
When 18-year-old Zetian offers herself up as a concubine-pilot, it’s to assassinate the ace male pilot responsible for her sister’s death. But she gets her vengeance in a way nobody expected—she kills him through the psychic link between pilots and emerges from the cockpit unscathed. She is labeled an Iron Widow, a much-feared and much-silenced kind of female pilot who can sacrifice boys to power up Chrysalises instead.
To tame her unnerving yet invaluable mental strength, she is paired up with Li Shimin, the strongest and most controversial male pilot in Huaxia. But now that Zetian has had a taste of power, she will not cower so easily. She will miss no opportunity to leverage their combined might and infamy to survive attempt after attempt on her life, until she can figure out exactly why the pilot system works in its misogynist way—and stop more girls from being sacrificed.
Lies Like Wildfire is absolutely wild like a fire 😂. The story starts with a possible death mentioned and then moves quickly to the past and a wild fire that starts in innocence and quickly gets out of control. So, you can imagine.
Lies Like Wildfire by Jennifer Lynn Alvarez

An intense high-stakes story about five friends and the deadly secret that could send their lives up in flames, perfect for fans of Karen McManus and E. Lockhart.
In Gap Mountain, California, everyone knows about fire season. And no one is more vigilant than 18-year-old Hannah Warner, the sheriff’s daughter and aspiring FBI agent. That is until this summer. When Hannah and her best friends accidentally spark an enormous and deadly wildfire, their instinct is to lie to the police and the fire investigators.
But as the blaze roars through their rural town and towards Yosemite National Park, Hannah’s friends begin to crack and she finds herself going to extreme lengths to protect their secret. Because sometimes good people do bad things. And if there’s one thing people hate, it’s liars.
This is Why We Lie looks like it will be another wild ride for me. I can’t wait.
This Is Why We Lie by Gabriella LePore

Once Jenna’s best friend becomes a key suspect, Jenna starts to look for answers on her own. As she uncovers scandals inside Preston Prep School leading back to Rookwood reform school, she knows she needs Adam on her side.
As a student at Rookwood, Adam is used to getting judgmental looks, but now his friends are being investigated by the police. Adam will do whatever he can to keep them safe, even if that means trusting Jenna.
As lies unravel, the truth starts to blur. Only one thing is certain: somebody must take the fall.
What are you reading this week? Anything that you’re particularly excited about?
I’m reading the next book for #ReadingValdemar, and so far I’m enjoying it! The author, Mercedes Lackey, has added some new elements to her world, which she never used to do. The first book in the series was published in the 1980s, and she’s still writing them.
I also started The Family Plot today, on your recommendation!
I’m reading Raymond Carver’s What We Talk About When We Talk About Love for the book club I have with my mom, Biscuit.
Lastly, I read aloud to my husband every night, and we’re getting near the end of the Australian YA novel Tomorrow, When the War Began.
I’m doing so much editing this week, I’m not reading for pleasure. I need to rest my eyes and brain. Looking forward to your reviews, though. Especially of the last book on your list.
It is very interesting. I’m liking her unique way of writing a romcom, I think. It shocked me at first, but I finally started relaxing into it yesterday.
I’m reading The Strange Death of Fiona Griffiths or trying to. Nothing to do with the book, it is great and I’m loving its first person point of view. I’m still getting used to working full time again, so my reading hours have been cut drastically. I’m looking forward to the school holidays where I can take a break. I’m reading my play to get it ready for filming. I’m so excited about this project and still have to pinch myself that I’m a commissioned writer. Although, I miss the days when I wrote just for fun,

I’m reading the last girl ghosted by Lisa Unger at the moment, I’m really enjoying it so far 💕
I read Confessions on the 7:45 by Unger and really enjoyed it. I look forward to hearing more about The Last Girl Ghosted.

I hope you enjoy all those books and I especially hope you enjoy that creepier than creepy family in The Family Plot.
I just got to the part where Dahlia says there’s no way the body in the grave can be her twin. She’s quite insistent!
Isn’t she though?!?!

I don’t blame you. I would be the same.
Looking forward to your review of Falling in Louvre! I’m intrigued just by the title.
It’s a very interesting novel. ❤️
Falling in Louvre, I love that title. I hope you enjoy all your present and upcoming reads, Tessa.
Leitch is a very smart writer and that is reflected in her titles.
I had not heard of Falling in Louvre by Fiona Leitch, it sounds like something I would enjoy. I loved the blurb.

I’m so excited for The Bronzed Beasts, but have no idea when I’ll get to it. Soooo behind on reading.
I know. That’s why I’m reading it in small bits and pieces otherwise, I don’t know when it would happen.

How are you liking your new job? And, how is the play(?) going?
Okay, just sent the final draft today. Will be rehearsed next week. Filmed the week after. Really excited about it. I like my new job, but super busy.
