What spooky creature and/or setting do you never get tired of reading about?

I don’t often read about spooky creatures or settings, so I don’t get tired of any. I guess the spookiest characters/setting I could read more and more about is Ann Rice’s supernatural world full of vampires and witches. Her Mayfair witches are the most frightening of the creatures as their story involves a terrifying demon named Taltos. I wish there had been more in that series as I never got tired of their story even when it crossed over to The Vampire Chronicles books.
AMC has recently picked up the rights to make The Mayfair Witches and The Vampire Chronicles into tv series. AMC did well with A Discovery of Witches, but that series wasn’t anywhere near as frightening and gory as The Mayfair Witch series, so that will be interesting if it airs.
Now, a non-scary Halloween movie that I never get tired of is Casper from 1995. I watch it every year. And play the dance scene over and over because I love that song. I was a brand new high school English teacher the year the movie came out on video, and around Halloween, we went into testing. So, on the days my students didn’t have a test in my class, we watched this movie. We had quite a lively discussion about why Cat’s mom, who is dead, comes back in a red dress and not a white one. I had to find something literature-like to discuss, right?

I have not seen the movie Casper in years! I remember the old Casper cartoons and I loved them because the girl’s name was Wendy. LOL.

And it’s nice to see someone else enjoyed Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches. Most prefer her vampires.
I actually preferred the witches because I thought Rice’s take, though routed in religious and cultural beliefs, original and so amazingly compelling. She is the only writer who can mesmerize me with horror, so I don’t even think about how scary it really is. Lol.
Reading her work is certainly an experience in originality. She stands apart, I’ll give her that, with such beautifully dark and rich characters it’s easy to get lost in her writing. I’m glad you enjoyed it too!
I scare easily, so anything mildly spooky and everything about this time of the year completely freaks me out. Cute witchy reads, though, have been growing on me lately, though. Casper is such a fun movie! My husband and I love Hocus Pocus around Halloween, but Casper is really great for any time of the year.

I’m such a fan of the Mayfair witches and just recently read about the TV adaptation. Sure hope they don’t screw it up. For me, a good haunted house tale never gets old. I’m a sucker for those books.

I love haunted house or mansion. I haven’t read many books on this but I always loved this setting in movies.
Sometimes they can be too scary for me but I’m reading one now and I’m totally enthralled – so I guess it depends on how it’s written. ❤️. The movies are definitely too scary for me. Slasher movies don’t keep me awake at night but if I watch a good haunted house story – that totally has me hearing noises and such all night long 👻
Horror movies or books never scared me. It’s psychological thriller I find scary.
I’m tired of vampires. If you’re going to do them, do something different (not, for the love of all that’s holy, sparkles) with them. Something interesting. NOS4A2 looked like it was going to be great, but it dragged. Might have been casting. I thing Zachary Quinto is amazing, but the female lead (can’t remember her name) bugged me. And the screen time wasn’t balanced. She got a lot more time than he did. Which made sense, as it was her story. She was the hero. But he was the titular character. I wanted more of him. Long story short, if you’re going to do vampires, have a great story or a new take.
You asked what we weren’t tired of, though. I’m always happy with The Exorcist. I watch it (and movies of that ilk) every chance I get. The trope of good vs. evil is at its purest in the holy-against-hell form and always captivates me.
The Exorcist scared the crap out of me both times I watched it. That’s exactly the type of stories that do scare me – anything with demons, possession or ghosts. But, weirdly, they do fascinate me at the same time.
I enjoy urban fantasy and PNR but vampires have never really caught my interest. I love me a bad-boy demon though!

I’m drawing a complete blank! Maybe because I don’t normally read about spooky creature😏 However, I cut my teeth on gothic romances back in the day (Victoria Holt). Does that count?
I think it does. I mean if I can count Casper then anything goes, right? 😃
I’ve always been a real scaredy-cat and never liked reading or watching anything scary but that all began to change about three years ago. My husband is enjoying introducing me to his favourite horror films and I’m really enjoying getting to see all that I’ve missed out on. So at the moment everything in the scary genre is new to me and I enjoy all of it. I think psychological horror is my favourite – I loved The Shining. I also loved The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix so I guess I like haunted house stories that have a psychological side to them too.

I really liked the Netflix Haunting of Hill house, too! Then I tried watching the Bly Manor one and thought it draaaagged, so I DNF’d. Now I’m watching Midnight Mass. I love it so far!

Hocus Pocus is a fun on-scary one that I never tire of. For a spooky setting I can read about over and over, that would have to be a haunted house or a creepy cemetery. I’m like you in that I don’t like anything with demons or possession. I saw the Exorcist once and it was one time too many!

I love the film Hocus Pocus and will watch it again and still enjoy it. I don’t generally watch horror movies that make me jump out of my seat or give me nightmares. I love things like Scooby Doo, and remember watching them as a child. I still watch them now. I binge watched the X files for a few months. I’m not sure it could be classed as horror.

I love Ann Rice and the way she creates this perfectly eerie mood with her books. I haven’t read her Mayfair Witches series,Tessa, but now I want to. And how fun that it may turn into a TV series! That’s exciting. I probably should read the books first. Getting on it!

Daphne du Maurier sets a few novels on the moors of Cornwall, and I never get tired of that spooky, dreary, isolated setting. A movie I never tire of is Halloween (the original), but I’m also quick to watch Coraline.

I’m not big on movie theaters because I need the closed caption device, and they usually suck. And talking in the theater is a big thing where I live. No clue if this is normal everywhere or just my area, but because my hearing aids have microphones on the back, all I can focus on is the people talking behind me.
It’s supposed to be streaming on the Peacock app too but I imagine you’d need a subscription but I’m not sure.
