What Are You Reading This Week – November 17, 2021? #WWWWednesday #CurrentlyReading

Nanny Dearest by Flora Collins is a debut novel. The reviews have been quite mixed, but I have hope for a good thriller read. I will be starting this today, and I can’t wait.

In this compulsively readable novel of domestic suspense, a young woman takes comfort in reconnecting with her childhood nanny, until she starts to uncover secrets the nanny has been holding for twenty years. Sue Keller is lost. When her father dies suddenly, she’s orphaned in her mid-twenties, her mother already long gone. Then Sue meets Annie. It’s been twenty years, but Annie could never forget that face. She was Sue’s live-in nanny at their big house upstate, and she loved Sue like she was her own. Craving connection and mothering, Sue is only too eager to welcome Annie back into her life; but as they become inseparable once again, Sue starts to uncover the truth about Annie’s unsettling time in the Keller house all those years ago, particularly the manner of her departure—or dismissal. At the same time, she begins to grow increasingly alarmed for the safety of the two new charges currently in Annie’s care. Told in alternating points of views—Annie in the mid-’90s and Sue in the present day—this taut novel of suspense will keep readers turning the pages right up to the shocking end.

I wanted to see if I could find a Thanksgiving-themed book to review for next week. I’m only posting one review – I’ll do a special post on Thanksgiving – next week and did not have any ARCs that needed to go in that spot, so why not find something fun. I had Sothern Magic Thanksgiving – a little paranormal cozy – on my TBR and Kindle Unlimited shelf since it came out, and after trying two other books that I decided against, I chose to read and review this fun book. It is the only book I have read in the series, but I easily stepped in at Book#7.

  • Genre: Paranormal Cozy Mystery / Holiday Fiction

It’s Pepper Dunn’s first Thanksgiving in the magical town of Magnolia Cove, Alabama. The entire town is ready to celebrate—except Pepper, who’s still yearning for her boyfriend, Axel Reign, to return. But she has little time to mourn. When a new baker sets up shop across the street from Pepper’s cousin and starts stealing customers, it’s all out war. But when the storeowner ends up murdered and Pepper’s cousin becomes suspect number one, it’s up to Pepper to help. Thrust into a mystery, she teams up with a talking rabbit that’s keeping more information than he’s revealing and an old foe turned friend. More secrets than Pepper bargained for unravel in front of her, but the main one—who killed the baker, is anyone’s guess. Will Pepper solve the murder or will she become the next victim?

You’ll Be The Death of Me is my next read, and I can’t wait. I’ve enjoyed other Karen McManus thrillers, so I expect to enjoy this one as well. I am on the blog tour for this gem with The Write Reads.

And outsider Cal just got stood up . . . again. So when the three unexpectedly run into each other, they decide to avoid their problems by ditching. Just the three of them, like old times. Except they’ve barely left the parking lot before they run out of things to say. . . . . . until they spot another Carlton High student skipping school—and follow him to the scene of his own murder. In one chance move, their day turns from dull to deadly. And it’s about to get worse. It turns out Ivy, Mateo, and Cal still have some things in common…like a connection to the dead kid. And they’re all hiding something. Could it be that their chance reconnection wasn’t by chance after all?

These look like great reads, Tessa! I had to add Nanny Dearest.. it sounds pretty unsettling.
The Thanksgiving one isn’t to my taste but it did make me chuckle. 🤭

I know, right? It is a new author, so there aren’t fans yet which could account for some of the inconsistencies in ratings but it always makes me more alert going in.

I usually look to see if there are at least some 5 or 4 stars, and if there are I give it a chance 💕

The Thanksgiving one is probably not for me. The other two sound really good. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on all three.

They are not easy to find. I guess because only the US and Canada have the holiday.
