#BookBloggerHop | Clean Utopia or Frenzied Dystopia

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

Which do you think is more likely – clean utopia or frenzied dystopia?

(Julie @ Stepping Stone Book Reviews)

I would like to think clean utopia is more likely. My husband and I have been talking about our plan to live out retirement on the beach more and more and I always envision that as a clean utopia. It’s definitely a dream full of clean sand, crisp ocean breezes and lots of bright sunshine.

But the reality for the world, I’m afraid, would more likely be a frenzied dystopia. Or if there was a meter that had clean utopia on one side and frenzied dystopia on the other, the needle would be more into the frenzied side. I doubt that it would be a full on dystopia but it would be more like it than it would be utopia.

Why do I think that? Purely and simply that thing that has been termed the human condition. By our very nature, we want more, to achieve more, to be bigger and better and unfortunately our ideas of what that means are wildly and widely different. So if we can’t agree on what utopia is, I can’t imagine how we are ever going to achieve it on a large scale.

So what say you – clean utopia or frenzied dystopia?

A fantastic answer, mine is very short and brief today.

I started to give a soap box lecture but dialed it back. 🤣. But I would love to live in Utopia ❤️

🤣🤣🤣 At least we’re on the same page!

I think you are right we are never going to get utopia, but a mixture of the two would be good 😊

      Agreed!

I think it would be a dystopia, and it probably is happening now. We are leaning towards being reliant on news from the internet, and propaganda is happening right now to some countries. There is a news blackout and only the governments ”news” is shown to the people who live there.

We are definitely too close to it for comfort ❤️

I totally agree with you. It will be more towards dystopia as human nature is complex. So many people has to work just to have a balance.

      Very true ❤️

Well I hope it’s nothing like Blade Runner where it always rains and it’s high tech and depressing! I’m hoping for a clean Utopia especially if we can all sort out the climate crisis in time!

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

I hope so to! You know, I was thinking about what dystopian world we’ll end up closest to. I don’t think I’d want to be in any of them, so hopefully society will self correct before we get there.

I believe we will emerge from the frenzied dystopia to a clean utopia. At least, that’s what history would suggest because the crazies end up losing their grip on a more rational society. My hope is we’re experiencing the worst now.

Lips to ears, Jo. I so hope you are right ❤️

My utopia is the same as yours, Tessa – hubby and I have also been talking about retiring at the beach. But I also agree with you about the frenzied utopia. The meter is definitely leaning in that direction.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

Unfortunate but true. Maybe we will be your neighbors in our joint utopia ❤️

I definitely see the world turning into a dystopia. Watching how it’s going just reminds me of pre hunger games.

      That it does at times.

I’ll be honest, this weeks question didn’t really mean anything to me. Are those common phrases used in the US? I’m wondering if something was lost in translation because I really wouldn’t use either phrase for any reason. Great answer, by the way.

Not really except in terms of movies, books, etc…. Books are the only reason I know them. I’m going to go out on a limb and say perhaps they are seen more in YA level stories. Not exclusively but I definitely see a lot of it in YA.

      1. Louise H Avatar

I don’t read much YA so that could well explain my confusion.

I do like your take on this one and fully agree. We don’t like to be content and actually live in our happily ever afters. I love plays like Into the Woods and TV shows like the Good Place that question that forever happy and at peace concept.

I hope you will have a good weekend Tessa!

Clean Utopia is what I want, but I’m sure it will end up to be a mixture of both. Sometimes when I read historicals, I think we’ve come a long way, but then I read the news and figure we still have a way to go.

The reason we have so many dystopian books and so few utopian books is that it’s easy to imagine how bad things could get (or critique the contemporary world and label it dystopia…) but difficult to imagine how utopias would really work… There is a reason that Utopia literally means ‘nowhere’ 😉

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

      This is very true ❤️

I tend to agree with you on this question and answer, Tessa. We would love a clean utopia, but people just don’t seem to run that way. In fact, the world seems to be hurtling toward a frenzied dystopia faster than ever. Ugh. Let’s hope that eventually saner minds prevail. <3

      That’s what I keep hoping 🤞
