The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

What is your reading preference – fiction or nonfiction?
(submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

I prefer fiction. Nonfiction is sort of like audiobooks for me in that neither can capture my attention for long periods of time. The only time I read nonfiction is when I am researching something and then I just read pieces and parts. I’ve never been able to read a nonfiction book cover to cover, even though my husband has tried to entice me with nonfiction books that are about things I love. The nonfiction book is always started then ends up losing out to a fiction book that’s waiting to be read.

Do you prefer fiction or nonfiction?

definitely fiction. It’s very rare I liked a non-fiction book, not that I have read many but the few I read were okaish.
Me too!
Depends on my mood. And necessity. If I want to be entertained, obviously fiction. If I need information or just want to learn about someone or something, clearly nonfiction. Lately, I’ve been reading more fiction, but I just ordered a nonfiction book I’m excited about.
I hope you enjoy it 😊
I definitely prefer fiction but I enjoy non fiction too. I find it’s useful to have a non fiction book for the times when I’ve only got a short time to read as it’s easier to put a non fiction book down.
I agree that it is much easier to put a nonfiction book down. I can see where that would be useful.
I read more fiction but still love interesting non fiction. Being obsessed with disasters (all kinds), my shelf is full of books chronicling the most famous of them. And, I love autobiographies of truly interesting people. Don’t get me started on true crime!
I’ve never tried true crime. That’s nonfiction I could probably get through.
Oh, in the hands of a good writer, true crime books can be more exciting than a thriller. The first book I ever read in the genre was by the queen of it, Ann Rule. It’s her book about Ted Bundy, The Stranger Beside Me. Another chilling one is Fatal Vision, which is about Jeffrey MacDonald, the Army officer who murdered his family at Ft. Bragg. Written by Joe McGinniss, it chilled me to the bone. It was also developed into a TV mini series. Tessa, you’d love this genre.
Fiction by far. I can count on one hand the number of nonfiction books I’ve read by choice.
Me too!
I definitely prefer Fiction, but I am trying to read more nonfiction now. I prefer narrative non-fiction, ones that sound more like a story. I do not like ones that are facts and numbers etc. I think my favourite non-fiction books are memoirs, especially if they have humor in them.
I might like those too. They sound appealing.
I see all the non-fiction challenges and feel as though I *should* read non-fiction but have finally admitted that it isn’t my thing.
Me either!
I prefer non-fiction books. I like to be immersed in a story, I find it relaxing.
I’ve never had that experience. That’s very cool.
Definitely fiction, although I did discover last year I can also enjoy nonfiction.
It’s always good to expand what you read, I think.
Oh yeah absolutely. And it’s only by giving something a try that you know if it’s for you and it’s perfectly fine if it’s not, then you can move on to something else 😊
Fiction all the way for me too!
Definitely!!!
I’m with you. Fiction for the win!! lol
I used to be so heavily into nonfiction but now I like a little bit of everything!
That’s awesome!
About 50% each! I rarely used to read non fiction but now I like to alternate them, or I might have a non fiction ebook and fiction paperback at the same time 🙂
That’s very cool. There are so many interesting sounding nonfiction books out there.
