#BookBloggerHop | Print and Audio at the Same Time

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

If you are listening to an audiobook, do you follow along with the print version?

(submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews)

I talked about how difficult audio books are for me many times on here, but doing both audio and print actually does work for me. There a few a few cons to this though.

  1. Trying to get audio speed to match up with reading speed in a way that it doesn’t sound ridiculous.
  2. Cost, if I have to buy either or both versions!!!!!!!
  3. Availability of no cost options like the library.

I’ve actually recently put a few audio versions on hold at the library for books I already have. I hope to start soon (some in October) a Backlog Book Review post, weekly, and it would be cool to talk about the audio and print versions but that’ll totally depend on availability.

The only benefit I see to doing both audio and print is being able to talk about both versions, otherwise it seems impractical for many reasons.

If you are listening to an audiobook, do you follow along with the print version?

I don’t mind following the same story in both audio and print. In fact, I did that with ebook and audio I had and it was nice just to listen and skimming my eyes on words. It helped me get over the fear of losing concentration or not able to highlight the text or not missing anything.

I agree – that’s a great way to use both.

I’ve never done this and I’m not tempted to to as I do both in very different circumstances: when I read, I just read and I don’t need to hear the words, I hear them fine in my head, and when I listen, I’m already doing something else, like gardening.

I agree – it’s that way for me with physical books too.

I haven’t done this but have seen that loads of people do so might give it a go!

It’s a way to keeping your reading flexible and experience both formats.

I occasionally do it if I have the book to hand or if I can’t listen but want to keep the momentum up with the book.

I kind of liked that flexibility when using both formats.

Don’t think I would do this for the same reasons as you 💕

Yeah, there are some big cons, for sure.

I don’t listen to audio books, I prefer to read a paperback or hardback.

I love reading a print copy now and again ❤️

I’ve never done this – it never occurred to me to try it. Sometimes I’ll check out an audiobook from the library of a book I have on my Kindle (usually because I don’t have time to read it) and I may have to refer to the print copy for certain things.

      That is very helpful!

When I’m listening to an audiobook, I don’t read along. However, I’ve sometimes gone back to the eBook to reread sections that were unclear on audio. I never do the reverse. But, you know my love of audio so this comes as no surprise😏

That’s a great way to utilize both forms!

I don’t enjoy audiobooks but if I did the whole point of listening to them would be that I was doing a task/activity where I couldn’t read, for example driving. So I definitely wouldn’t read AND listen as it removes the only “advantage” an audio book would have for me.

I don’t enjoy them either but weirdly I keep trying. 😂

I’ve never done this before but it sounds like it would be interesting to try!

It’s definitely a different kind of experience.

I don’t read while I listen, but once in a while I see books on Kindle Unlimited with free listening. Definitely worth checking out.

I have a few of them from KU with audio coming up in my October schedule.

I don’t often read and listen at the same time, but I do read/listen to many audiobooks. I listen when I am doing things, but I read when I am sitting and relaxing. If the audiobook is really good though, I won’t read it, but only listen.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

That’s kind of how I’ve done it the few times I had both.

I have started a book in print and then finished in audio, but never tried to do both at the same time.

It’s quite a challenge to do both at the same time.
