I’m am totally fascinated by my new smile. I only have temporary crowns but, still, they look so nice. I just can’t stop staring at the change. 😂

The dentist appointment on Tuesday to get this new smile went fine. I was glad it was only 2.5 hours rather than the 4 hours they originally told me. I listened to an audio book while the dentist and his assistant worked away, only stopping it a few times – once to alert them that the assistant was trying to drown me by squirting water up my nose instead of in my mouth 😔.

The rest of the week went pretty normally. My recovery from the dental work was fairly easy. My top lip and a small portion of the roof of my mouth swelled over night, which was strange, but it went down again as Wednesday wore on.

The weather has been cooler lately, as you would expect in the Fall, and this weekend it has been overcast and a lot cooler much more like Fall weather. The leaves are still green, and I’m sure the temps will go up again before they go down, but Fall is here!

So, that was my week – how was yours?

Southern Gothic Thriller (Random House – Bantam)
A woman investigating her brother’s apparent suicide finds herself falling for her prime suspect—his darkly mysterious girlfriend—in this Southern gothic thriller that Karen Dionne calls “creepy, compelling, and utterly original.” “Get it out of me.” It was the last message Holly received from her brother, Dane, before he was found cleaved open in his girlfriend’s lavish Savannah townhouse. Police ruled his death a suicide sparked by psychosis, but Holly can’t shake the idea that something else must have happened—something involving another message he sent earlier that night about a “game” his girlfriend, Maura, wanted to play. Determined to discover the truth, Holly begins to stalk Maura, a magnetic, black-eyed florist with a penchant for carnivorous plants. But what begins as an investigation quickly veers into a fixation that lures Holly into the depths of Maura’s world: Savannah high society, eerie black roses, and a whisper of something more sinister. Soon Holly is feeling a dark attraction to the one woman she shouldn’t trust. As Holly falls deeper for Maura and her secrets, she’s left with only one choice: find out what happened to Dane or meet the same fate.
Thriller (St. Martin’s Press – Minotaur)
In one of the year’s most anticipated thrillers #1 New York Times bestseller Sarah Pekkanen calls “Alex Finlay’s best yet,” What Have We Done is a tale about the lives we leave behind and the secrets we carry with us forever. A stay-at-home mom with a past. A has-been rock star with a habit. A reality TV producer with a debt. Three disparate lives. One deadly secret. Twenty five years ago, Jenna, Donnie, and Nico were the best of friends, a bond forged as residents of Savior House, an abusive group home for parentless teens. When the home was shut down—after the disappearance of several kids—the three were split up. Though the trauma of their childhood has never left them, each went on to live successful, if troubled, lives. They haven’t seen one another since they were teens but now are reunited for a single haunting reason: someone is trying to kill them. To save their lives, the group will have to revisit the nightmares of their childhoods and confront their past—a past that holds the secret to why someone wants them dead. It’s a reunion none of them asked for . . . or wanted. But it may be the only way to save all their lives. What Have We Done is both an edge-of-your seat thriller and a gut-wrenching coming-of-age story. And it cements Alex Finlay as one of the new leading voices in thrillers today.
Fantasy (Random House – Del Rey)
A young Indigenous woman enters a colonizer-run dragon academy—and quickly finds herself at odds with the “approved” way of doing things—in the first book of this brilliant new fantasy series. The remote island of Masquapaug has not seen a dragon in many generations—until fifteen-year-old Anequs finds a dragon’s egg and bonds with its hatchling. Her people are delighted, for all remember the tales of the days when dragons lived among them and danced away the storms of autumn, enabling the people to thrive. To them, Anequs is revered as Nampeshiweisit—a person in a unique relationship with a dragon. Unfortunately for Anequs, the Anglish conquerors of her land have different opinions. They have a very specific idea of how a dragon should be raised, and who should be doing the raising—and Anequs does not meet any of their requirements. Only with great reluctance do they allow Anequs to enroll in a proper Anglish dragon school on the mainland. If she cannot succeed there, her dragon will be killed. For a girl with no formal schooling, a non-Anglish upbringing, and a very different understanding of the history of her land, challenges abound—both socially and academically. But Anequs is smart, determined, and resolved to learn what she needs to help her dragon, even if it means teaching herself. The one thing she refuses to do, however, is become the meek Anglish miss that everyone expects. Anequs and her dragon may be coming of age, but they’re also coming to power, and that brings an important realization: the world needs changing—and they might just be the ones to do it.

We are still watching The Ring of Power and She-Hulk, though we have finished Cobra Kai. I’m not sure if it is the last season or not as most threads were tied up though two others are still open. Cobra Kai is a bit campy and a bit dark, and we enjoyed it. I’m hoping to start Andor this weekend on Disney+, though my daughter says she’s tired of Star Wars shows, as if that’s something you can get tired of. Geesh!

I truly do and I try to be nice about it but I think my disdain must come through loud and clear when they do things like try to drown me.

      1. CJRTB Books Avatar

Yes squirting water up your nose is not pleasant. Sending hugs 🤗

  3. Kelly Avatar

I’m so pleased you love your new smile, even if they did try to drown you in the process 🙈 Autumn has definitely arrived and unpacked all its suitcases here in Belgium, it’s clearly here to stay 😄 While I love the cosiness of the evenings, I hate that it’s been raining for most of the week, with more of the same to follow next week.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

Lots of rain does put a damper on enjoying the fall temps for sure.

  4. Zainab Avatar

I’m so glad you’re appointment went well, and listening to an audiobook sounds like a brilliant idea! I’m loving She-Hulk and wish the episodes were longer. It’s definitely more autumnal over here too, the chill in the air is very noticeable in the mornings and evenings and we’ve got rain forecast, which is great as we desperately need some. Have a great week!

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

She Hulk is unexpectedly fun. I love how she talks to the audience and that struggle with her being more liked when she’s in hulk form. It’s so much different than I expected.

Yes I love all that too!

I am very happy – especially that it didn’t cause much pain after and that it looks so natural yet so much better ❤️

Great to have a brilliant smile, and your procedure didn’t take as long as you first thought. I’ve had a pretty quiet week. Been at work, and my daughter and granddaughter were over for a stew on Wednesday. All cooked by my husband.

I love stew this time of year. It always hits the spot ❤️

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

Right? 😂. I’m afraid my disdain might have shown through my attempt to be understanding and nice to the assistant. I can’t wait to read these books!
