What did I just finish?
What am I reading next?
Every time I look at The Third Instinct by Kent Lester, I think, “Now, why did I take this one again?” And then I read the description and it’s so obvious why. Compared to Dan Smith, breakneck speed, secret societies – this has so many things that I love. I’ve just started it, so I’m not sure how much I like it yet but it’s promising.
Genre: Political / Technothriller
Pages: 361 pages
Publisher: Forge Books
Publication Date: December 6, 2022
A high-octane thriller that sets Dan Clifford against ancient secret societies vying for power in the modern world; in the vein of Dan Brown’s Robert Langdon series.
In The Third Instinct, author Kent Lester brings his signature blend of cutting-edge science, history, and pulse-pounding action to the next Dan Clifford adventure.
A shadowy group of bio-hackers called the Firemen threaten to worsen the Covid pandemic by releasing an even more lethal version of the pathogen. But what drives the Firemen and how do their motivations relate to the wealth of the Roman Empire and to the third basic human instinct?
The answers may lie with prediction scientist Dan Clifford. Unemployed and struggling with two years of pandemic isolation, he is rebuilding both his career and personal life. His plans to propose to his adrenaline-junkie girlfriend, Rachel Sullivan, are interrupted by the FBI. Dan must connect a maze of clues from the shadowy underworld of Savannah’s hacker community, to the ancient powerbrokers of Rome and in doing so, uncover a hidden agenda of big Pharma and a two-thousand-year-old battle for control of public opinion.
I’m reading The Urban Boys for a The Write Reads blog tour. I love superhero stories and this one sounds like quite the action-packed adventure.
Genre: Superhero Action & Adventure
Pages: 341 pages
Publisher: Two Petals Publishing
Publication Date: September 29, 2015
A suspenseful incident in a forbidden preserve heightens the senses of five friends. Sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell become super-gifts that forever change the world. But furious battles confront the boys as they try to understand their sensory super powers in a race to save mankind. With light beings and mysterious strangers complicating their plight, will the boys defeat the evil Druth before it’s too late? Get prepared for the twisting and grinding of this award-winning, action-adventure story — an edge-of-your-seat narrative for young and mature readers alike.
So, I was looking through Amazon at some holiday paperback books, and when I do that I put a bunch in my cart that look interesting then I go to the cart and look at them again and decide which I want. Well, when I got to Merry Little Meet Cute, I didn’t notice that Amazon had switched me to the Kindle version. I pressed the button to put it in my cart but since it is the digital version, I bought it instead. 🤦🏻♀️. I know I can return it, but I had been invited to buddy read and decided that meant that I wanted to join.
Genre: Holiday Fiction
Pages: 425 pages
Publisher: Avon
Publication Date: September 22, 2022
Cowritten by #1 New York Times bestselling author Julie Murphy and USA Today bestselling author Sierra Simone—a steamy plus-size holiday rom-com about an adult film star who is semi-accidentally cast as a lead in a family-friendly Christmas movie, and the former bad-boy pop star she falls in love with.
Bee Hobbes (aka Bianca Von Honey) has a successful career as a plus-size adult film star. With a huge following and two supportive moms, Bee couldn’t ask for more. But when Bee’s favorite producer casts her to star in a Christmas movie he’s making for the squeaky-clean Hope Channel, Bee’s career is about to take a more family-friendly direction.
Forced to keep her work as Bianca under wraps, Bee quickly learns this is a task a lot easier said than done. Though it all becomes worthwhilewhen she discovers her co-star is none other than childhood crush Nolan Shaw, an ex-boy band member in desperate need of career rehab. Nolan’s promised his bulldog manager to keep it zipped up on set, and he will if it means he’ll be able to provide a more stable living situation for his sister and mom.
But things heat up quickly in Christmas Notch, Vermont, when Nolan recognizes his new co-star from her ClosedDoors account (oh yeah, he’s a member). Now Bee and Nolan are sneaking off for quickies on set, keeping their new relationship a secret from the Hope Channel’s execs. Things only get trickier when the reporter who torpedoed Nolan’s singing career comes snooping around—and takes an instant interest in mysterious newcomer Bee.
And if Bee and Nolan can’t keep their off-camera romance behind the scenes, then this merry little meet cute might end up on the cutting room floor.
The Third Instinct sounds really interesting. I used to read a lot of that type of book but haven’t recently so will be interested to see what you think at the end.
Wow, is that a diverse selection of books! I wish you happy reading with all three.
I’m presently at the point where I’m deciding what to read next. So many books to choose from, LOL!
Merry Little Meet Cute looks so cute!! I hope you enjoy it. I have purchased the kindle version on accident before. Sometimes it automatically has that as the option. I hope you have a wonderful week!
I can see why you’d ask yourself why you chose The Third Instinct, and then reading the blurb, it’s obvious. A great blurb will to that! I’m reading Are We Monsters? by Rollin Miller and it’s great. He’s a new-to-me indie author and it’s one of those books that should be a movie. 🙂 Happy Reading!

I inhaled all of Dan Brown’s books. Just loved them. I’m enjoying the writing of this one so far. Can’t wait to get further into it today!

Me too! I heard Merry Little Meet Cute is steamy. At least I’m prepared ahead of time. 😂

I was so annoyed. Amazon messed up my system 😂. But, I do know that I could return it if I chose too.

Ooo…that sounds like an excellent find. I’ll have to mark it down on my list ❤️
I should finish it today. Great fun.
I found a second hand book called Sleep, by CL Taylor, I am looking forward to a good read.
Ooo…it does sound good. Hope you enjoy it!
Great variety, Tessa. The premise of Merry Little Meet Cute sounds hilarious – hope you enjoy it!
It is also very steamy apparently. I’ve been forewarned, I guess 😂
Sounds like you might be skipping over some pages, lol.
I’ve been thinking about Meet Cute so I’ll be interesting in your thoughts about that one. Enjoy💜
It’s probably more your speed than mine (I hear it’s very spicy) but I’m game to try.
I need to read more superhero books. I’m starting Futureland: battle for the park by H. D. Hunter.
Ooo…that sound interesting. Hope you’re enjoying it!
