Do you follow your favorite authors on social media? #BookBloggerHop #bookish #discussionpost

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

Do you use social media to keep up with your favorite authors?

(Submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer))

Yes I do but I thought this was funny 😆

Yes and no. I follow the ones that follow me on my Tessa Talks Books’ Instagram and Twitter accounts. Then on my personal accounts for IG and FB, I follow my favorites like Janet Evanovich, Anne Rice, James Patterson, Terry Goodkind, etc… But… here’s the thing…I’m not on my personal accounts like ever – so I never see any posts. If I want to know anything – like about a new book coming out – I just go to their website if they have one.

I do follow some but I look more generally at what is happening in the book world so I can find new authors to me too 😊

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

Yes, I do that too. I like reading new authors.

I’ve joined in again this week sharing my some of my interactions with favourite authors!

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

That’s a fun way to remember those exchanges ❤️

I do follow some on Twitter and Instagram but like you, end up going to their websites or Goodreads to find out about their new books.

Social media is so cluttered. It’s easier just to go to the source.

I am very shy about following authors on social media. I have followed a few favorites but mostly don’t out of a deep fear they will come across my reviews of their books if I follow them, lol

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

Oh, they will come across your reviews regardless. It’s both disconcerting and exhilarating when they do. It makes you feel noticed, you know?

      1. AmandaKay Avatar

Yeah, I’ve had it happen a couple of times and it’s always been weird but nice. Still scares me though!

Interesting question. I follow a few, mostly those that follow me. I much prefer to sign up for their newsletters, which are not only helpful about planned releases but offer stuff from time to time.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

Newsletters are a great way to learn what’s going on.

Good to know that readers appreciate author’s newsletters. They are a lot of work (the newsletters, not the readers😀)

        ❤️❤️❤️

I follow some of my favorites for book news, giveaways, etc. But also because so many of them share things about their writing techniques and struggles. It helps to know that all writers have their ups and downs.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

      Those are great reasons

I technically follow some, but I rarely see their posts.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

They get lost in the algorithms and all the many posts.

  8. Books Teacup and Reviews Avatar

I follow more followers on twitter than Instagram but among large number of followings and feeds, I don’t exactly get to check out any particular author and I don’t have enough time to specifically visit author’s social media to check for new updates. I think if I want that I would easily get that on their newsletters. But I love getting reply to tweets for review I have written.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

I think subscribing to newsletters is a great idea

I don’t, as I am not on Facebook or Twitter that much.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

      That would make it hard

  10. aquavenatus Avatar

Yes, I do. And, when I can, I try to re-share their content on those sites.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

      That’s awesome!

I only ever had facebook to follow authors, I didn’t friend my family and I don’t make personal posts on there. Over the last few years, I’ve drifted away and only check in a couple of times a week. There are only two authors I still follow and that’s because I arc read for them still.
I just don’t have time for Twitter and Instagram – I’d rather spend my time reading.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

It does take away from reading time 😣

  12. Sheri Dye Avatar

I follow some but, excluding WP, I’m rarely on my social media accounts.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

That’s a problem for me too!

      1. Sheri Dye Avatar

It’s crazy how much social media has taken over our lives.

  13. Hooked By That Book Avatar

Yes, I do, through my blog’s accounts. It’s a great place to get news or updates about books. I rarely think of visiting websites directly.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

Some of them are a lot of fun on social media ❤️
