So, this week was fairly quiet but this weekend was hopping. I got a new computer. My old one started having system/hardware issues regarding the internal fan. By the error I was getting, either the fan had truly stopped working (but I could hear it later as I used the computer) or more likely there was a communication error between the system and the hardware that was making startup a ridiculous nuisance because it showed the fan not passing some startup test. It was time anyway, so when I saw Dell was having a sale, I just bit the bullet and bought a new one.

Also, this weekend was the grand unveiling of the newly renovated indoor basketball court at the nonprofit where I work. The building is an old elementary school so it has a gym with a small basketball court and even a cafeteria. This was the project Steph Curry (a well-known basketball player in the US) and Under Armor ( a brand of athletic gear) took on because Steph Curry volunteered for Ada Jenkins when he was a student at Davidson College and wanted to give back to our little nonprofit. The gym is used by our afterschool program kids, so we had a special celebration just for them (see pictures below).

So, that was my week – how was yours?

I’m surprised I got any books this week but I did end up with two.

Love isn’t blind, it’s just little blurry. Sadie Montgomery never saw what was coming . . . Literally! One minute she’s celebrating the biggest achievement of her life—placing as a finalist in the North American Portrait Society competition—the next she’s lying in a hospital bed diagnosed with a “probably temporary” condition known as face blindness. She can see, but every face she looks at is now a jumbled puzzle of disconnected features. Imagine trying to read a book upside down and in another language. This is Sadie’s new reality. But, as she struggles to cope, hang on to her artistic dream, work through major family issues, and take care of her beloved dog, Peanut, she falls in love—not with one man but two. The timing couldn’t be worse. Making judgment calls on anything right now is a nightmare. If only her life were a little more in focus, Sadie might be able to have it all.
A woman wronged will shake an empire Calcutta, 1757. Bengal is on the brink of war. The East India Company, led by the fearsome Sir Peter Chilcott, are advancing and nobody is safe. Meena, the Nawab’s neglected and abused daughter, finds herself falling under the spell of James Chilcott, nephew of Sir Peter, who claims he wants to betray the company . . . for a price. Caught between friend and foe, Meena and James escape Calcutta, their hands stained in blood and pockets filled with gold. In Ceylon, they’re cleansed of their sins by Meena’s beloved aunt Kiran, before the young lovers set sail for the Dutch controlled Cape of Good Hope, with the promise of a new life. Yet past resentments and present betrayals begin to pile up as they struggle to overcome their differences. And as Meena yet again finds herself in a foreign land without anyone to turn to, she is forced to find out what she is willing to sacrifice when love turns to hate. The perfect read for fans of The Song of Achilles, Ariadne and Pandora

We are 3 episodes into The Traitors on the Peacock App. It’s not the best thing ever but it has a way of keeping you watching and wanting to know what happened.

I did! And I hope so too – there’s more angst at work (from others) and somehow, right now, I seem to be getting the short end of the stick. 🤨

What is The Traitors about? I didn’t hear about it yet. And good luck with the new computer!

    My Sunday Post.

It’s a game. A group of people are invited to a Scottish mansion (owned by Alan Cummings) and three of them are traitors working against the group. They play contests to earn money for the prize pot and try to figure out who the traitors are. The traitors kill someone each week and the contestants also vote out someone they think is a traitor each week.

What a wonderful project. It’s so important to keep kids busy and have room for them to play. Great work, Tessa! You have to be proud of this accomplishment.

that’s great news about your new gym floor – i love stories like that! Savage Beasts sounds great, especially as it references Ariadne and Achilles, both of which I loved. I’ll have to look this one up!

I really need to get a new laptop, mine stopped working nearly a year ago but I can’t really afford to splash out on one at the moment! I’ve actually been doing well without one so I am thinking whether to bother or not!!!

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

I work from home on my computer, so no computer means I would have to go in more 😮. That’s motivation enough for me.

      1. CJRTB Books Avatar

I’m lucky that I have a work laptop so I guess I could use that if I needed to!

Looks like a good week! It’s always hard to spend the money on the new computer, even when it’s needed. But a new computer is always so much fun too! Hope you have another great week and enjoy your new books too!

How wonderful that Curry gave back to the community. The gym looks great! I have a feeling my laptop isn’t far behind yours, Tessa. Acting kind of wonky lately.

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

I love that he remembers Ada Jenkins. Many of the college students that volunteer there do as do their relatives. It always amazes me. And I loved that he gave back in such a worthwhile way ❤️

  17. Mae Clair Avatar

That’s really cool about the gym and the basketball court! I bet that was a fun event.

New computers are always fun. I bought a new MacBook Air the end of November because my old one was no longer quite up to par (hubby is using it now, but it gets a lot less use then it did with me).

And I started reading The Villa yesterday. OMG, Tessa, I am HOOKED!!!

    1. Lady Tessa Avatar

Enjoy The Villa! It hooked me like that too ❤️

How exciting for you and the community where you work. I am afraid for the day when my computer dies. I don’t want a new one! Have a great week Tessa.
