Do you enjoy reading romance novels? If so, which romance trope is your favorite?

Just a personal side note: I was walking down the steps outside earlier this week, and I did one of those things where you expect to step on to a firm surface only to be met by air. I quickly grabbed on to the rail, so I wouldn’t take a head dive to the sidewalk, but I managed to twist my ankle in the process. The doc thought I broke it because it’s very swollen and very bruised, but when the X-rays came back clear, he sent me to the Orthopedic doctor, which is where I am today. So, I’m in a boot, using crutches, and on the good pain meds. But good pain meds always make me tired. Long story short, this has made me more spotty than usual with the blog hopping and the comment responding but as soon as I’m feeling better I will be back to my normal hopping/ responding, and I can’t wait to be back to enjoying your posts.
Just straight romance, I’m not a big fan of anymore. I always joke that I’ve been married too long for that. But really I don’t know why I turned away from it. I read tons of romance before I even should have. My mom was a big romance reader and I would read her books when I didn’t have any of my own. This was in middle school and high school. Like I said – much too young.
Funny family story – one of my mom’s romances was called The Bastard. I knew the connotation of that word was considered bad, but I didn’t actually know what it meant. This is when I was in 7th grade. So, one day when one of my brothers and I were at my grandmothers – we got into a fight, which was pretty common. I decided to call him the worst thing I could think of – which, of course, was bastard. You have never seen a room come to a standstill faster than it did at that moment. The reaction of my grandmother and great grandmother, who normally treated me like I walked on water – was anger on a level that I had never seen before or after. And when they wanted to know where I heard that word and I explained it was from a book of my mom’s ( their daughter/granddaughter) the reaction was priceless. They were just stunned then deflated because they realized I had no idea what this word meant. And my mom was flabbergasted 😂
I do however still love romantic comedies, especially when I need a palette cleanser from too many thrillers. And I have found recently that I have a particular fondness for the supernatural rom com.
I have also discovered that enemies to lovers is my favorite trope and friends to lovers my least favorite.

i read all sorts of romance, but romantic comedy are my favourite. I have been known to read some steamy books too 😂 Hope you start to feel more yourself soon as your foot heals 💕

Wishing you a speedy revovery! I don’t read romance novels. I used to read the occasional rom com between thrillers and horror novels, but I stopped doing that since I discovered historical fiction and fantasy, especially YA fantasy, which does tend to have a bit of romance included. I quit enjoy the enemies to lovers trope in the YA fantasy genre as well.
YA Fantasy is full of romance. That is definitely true. I guess I should have included that too.
I love that story and can picture everyone in the room stopping 😂😂😂
I’m not a straight romance fan either, I quite like a rom com now and again but don’t read these as much as I used to.

So sorry to hear about your ankle. Hope that the pain gets better soon. I think that enemies to lovers is my favourite trope and I do like my romances to have some humour in them.
I do too. The drs said these kinds of injuries can take a bit a time to heal. That a break is actually easier because it heals much faster. But I’m doing everything they told me to do.
Book that made me fall in love with reading was a fantasy and I enjoyed romance in that genre so eventually I started reading romance and I loved them as much as fantasy. Tropes I love are- enemies to lovers, fake dating, and second chance.
I forgot about fake dating. I like that trope too!
I am the exact same way. I used to love romance, and now I don’t really read it. But I do love a good rom-com (ie: Abby Jimenez or Christina Lauren)
Those are good authors. I’ve enjoyed some books by each of them too!

I was always one to bring a room to a standstill. 😂. I don’t know how fast my ankle will heal but I’m doing everything they told me in hopes it’ll speed it along.

She did! She took away all the juicy romances, so all I was left with was the set of encyclopedias and some random nonfiction books like one on dream interpretation. 😂

Now, about reading romance. I took a 20-year hiatus from them because I couldn’t abide the old bodice rippers. Around 2010, when I discovered Shelfari and Goodreads, friends introduced me to romantic suspense and I was stunned. There were a host of talented writer explaining the genre. Since that time, though, I’ve gotten pickier, preferring stories with romantic elements with another genre being at the forefront (mystery, contemporary fiction). With that said, however, I have a list of writers who I’ll always read because they’re highly skilled storytellers.

I don’t remember who it was by. It’s good that Brenda Novak changed the title of her book though. I know it didn’t go over very well with my family 😂.
I take blood thinners for a clotting disorder so that makes my pain reliever choices very small. I save the powerful meds for nighttime now and just use Tylenol during the day since I can’t take Ibuprofen. That’s been working okay.
Oh no! Sorry to hear about your ankle, Tessa. Get some rest. I don’t mind romcoms, but I don’t read straightup romances. Like you said, they’re a nice palate cleanser. Can’t say that I have a favorite trope when it comes to that genre.
Romcoms just make such a fun little breather.

I’ve never really read romance novels, but there would be some romance in them.
A lot of genres have elements of romance, huh? I can usually take or leave it when it’s in other genres.

Since I’m a romance writer, I do love romance reading, but have changed my choices within the genre over the years. I started out loving Harlequins as a young teen and spent many hours at our local secondhand bookstore combing the shelves for new reads.
Then, I moved on to suspense, which I still enjoy, then rom-coms, paranormal, and finally women’s fiction. They’re all great though 🙂
I loved Harlequin romances as a teen! They even had a Harlequin Teen version that I read everyone of I think.

I prefer romance in the books that I read but RARELY read contemporary romance. I prefer SFR, Fantasy with romance and rom-coms. I’m a sucker for second-chance romances too. Very similar to you, my tweens and early teens involved reading my mum’s Mills & Boo (Harlequin) romances, though I never shocked my family like you managed to 😂

I love your story, Tessa! I enjoy romance, a lot. I like Second Chance romance and Enemies to Lovers the most. I hate the Misdirection or Lack of Communication Tropes, they just irritate me. (maybe they aren’t even a trope, but I still dislike them). RomComs are the best!
