After my Friday post, I decided to try not posting on Sundays and instead spread out parts of that post to Wednesdays and Fridays. I included my weekly book haul in this post. And on Friday, I will include a weekly recap (life updates and past/upcoming posts) with my Book Blogger Hop question and answer. Let’s see how that works out 😊

FlatIron is doing a blog tour for Pather Gap by James A. McLaughlin – and boy, I was surprised and flattered that they asked me to join. They sent me the NetGalley widget and a physical copy of the book. I will be starting it today and am looking forward to it.

The thrilling follow-up to the Edgar Award–winning Bearskin, about two siblings on the verge of inheriting millions but who discover dark secrets in their family’s past. Siblings Bowman and Summer were raised by their father and two uncles on a remote Colorado ranch. They react differently to his radical teachings and the confusions of adolescence. As young adults, they become estranged but are brought back together in their thirties by the prospect of an illegal and potentially dangerous inheritance from their grandfather. They must ultimately reconcile with each other and their past in order to defeat ruthless criminal forces trying to extort the inheritance. Set in the rugged American West and populated by drug cartels, shadowy domestic terrorists, and nefarious business interests, Panther Gap shows James McLaughlin’s talents on full display: gorgeous environmental writing, a white-knuckle thriller plot, and characters dealing with legacy, identity, and their own place in the world.

Woah! The New One by Evie Green is something – so many moral taboos broken and so much to talk about. I enjoyed this fast-paced sci-fi-ish thriller a lot!

A suspenseful, cutting-edge novel about two parents who finally get the daughter they’ve always wanted—it’s too bad she isn’t real. From the author of We Hear Voices. For Tamsyn and Ed, life is tough. They both work long hours for very little money and come home to their moody, rebellious daughter, Scarlett. After a tragic accident leaves Scarlett comatose and with little chance of recovery, Tamsyn and Ed are out of options until a lifeline emerges in the form of an unusual medical trial. In exchange for the very best treatment for Scarlett, a fully furnished apartment, and a limitless spending account, the family must agree to move to Switzerland and welcome an artificial copy of their daughter into their home. Suddenly their life is transformed. Tamsyn and Ed want for nothing, and the AI replacement, Sophie, makes it feel just like having their daughter back—except without all the bad parts. Sophie is engaged, happy, and actually wants to spend time with her parents. But things take a turn for the worse when Scarlett makes a very real recovery and the family discovers that the forces behind their new life are darker than they ever could have imagined.

I’ve been looking forward to The Quarantine Princess Diaries ever since Wendy (Bashful Bookworm) posted it in her book haul a long time ago. My request for it was approved, and have been itching to read it ever since.

Mia Thermopolis knows just what to do in a crisis: Rule. During the Covid-19 pandemic, a section of the diary of Princess Mia Thermopolis of Genovia fell into the hands of Meg Cabot, the Princess’s royal biographer. As reported in media outlets such as Entertainment Weekly, The Mary Sue, Refinery 29, Bustle, and more, from March until June of 2020, sixteen entries of the princess’s diary were leaked onto Ms. Cabot’s blog, to the delight of over a million fans. In these entries, titled The Coronavirus Princess Diaries, the princess recorded her most heartfelt emotions while dealing with her husband’s quarantine after exposure to the virus; her personal (and political) battles while imposing health restrictions on her small European nation; life during lockdown (even in as idyllic a location as a palace on the Riviera); and of course, dealing with her demanding royal family, especially her grandmother. Since then, readers have been clamoring for more chapters of Mia’s coronavirus diary . . . and here they are at last: The Quarantine Princess Diaries include not only the previously released entries (now edited and updated with new content), but two hundred more pages of entirely original, never-before-seen entries, including the princess’s worries over a possible royal affair; a showdown between Mia and Grandmère over the latter’s intended nuptials; the eventual development and distribution of a groundbreaking intranasal vaccine for every citizen in Genovia; and, as always, a royally happy ending.

Have you read any of The Princess Diaries books or watched the movies? It’s a fun series.

      1. Books Teacup and Reviews Avatar

I didn’t read books but watched movies and I liked Anne Hathaway in those movies. I wonder why they didn’t turn it in Netflix shows. it sure would fun. I would like to read books some day.

The New One sounds very freaky….and frighteningly timely with the rapid growth of AI.
That’s a lot of books you’ve got there. I’m a pretty fast reader, but I don’t know how you do it, LOL!

    1. Tessa @TessaTalksBooks Avatar

Me either. I need to create a team of me. Though, really these books are coming out all the way through November so I have it all scheduled out. Sometimes I get bottlenecked (like I’m getting ready to have happen) but mostly it all works out.

    1. Tessa @TessaTalksBooks Avatar

This is a killer list of books you have! (No pun intended – lol). I am currently on a thriller kick so Panther Gap is next on the list. THANK YOU! My favorite March read was mystery thriller novel by Wendy Koenig, “On the Sly” (A Sylvia Wilson Mystery). I always enjoy reading about a kick-ass woman who has to take matters in her own hands. Sylvia, a bar owner, finds a dead body in her bar and turn out, it’s an ex-police officer. With little evidence other than she is the only person who has the alarm code to get in and out of the bar and there was no forceful break-in the cops keep coming back to her as being a possible suspect. Sylvia has to find out who the killer is to clear her name and not only that, but the killer also reaches out to her directly and threatens those who are close to her. It’s an exciting whodunnit and it has some really witty and funny moments too. Sylvia is a super likable character, and you find yourself rooting for her throughout.

    Happy reading!
