I should have started and finished Secrets Never Die by Vincent Ralph yesterday. But I dnf’d two books before I got it, so I had to admit I was in a bad mood and maybe needed to step back for a few hours or the day. I read a few pages and will be getting more into it later today. I’m very curious about this one. It may be a bit too YA but 🤷🏻‍♀️

  • Genre: YA Thriller

From New York Times bestselling author Vincent Ralph comes Secrets Never Die, a chilling new YA thriller about four teens whose dark secrets come back to terrorize them. Some secrets should never have been buried . . . We call it the Dark Place. I don’t know who built it or when but, for us, it’s special. One night every year Sam Hall and his friends hold funerals for their secrets in an abandoned hut in the woods that they call the Dark Place. But this year, their secrets are taking on a life of their own. Sam is a former child star whose career went up in flames—literally. And no one, not even his best friend knows why. His friends each hold a secret pertaining to the night. A secret they would all like buried. Now someone from the past is blackmailing them with their dangerous secrets. Sam isn’t sure who he can trust, who’s watching him – or how far he’s willing to go to bury the past once and for all.

I loved The Love Plot by Samantha Young!!! It’s one of those books that I just didn’t want to put down. It’s Grumpy-Sunshine and Fake Dating tropes and just had tons of witty banter, which I adore.

  • Genre: Romantic Comedy
  • Pages: 352 pages
  • Publisher: Berkley

There’s a magnetic attraction when a happy-go-lucky gig worker agrees to a fake relationship with a rich, uptight New Yorker in this steamy romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Samantha Young. Star Shine Meadows is all about freedom, thanks to the hippie parents who raised her. Juggling her jobs as a professional costume character actor and a line sitter, she believes in no expectations, no stressful ambitions, and no-strings-attached relationships. So when she meets a birthday girl’s grumpy uncle while working a princess party, she can’t help but needle him. She’ll never see him again, and honestly, he’s pretty hot. Rafe Whitman may be a veterinarian with a great bedside manner, but that doesn’t mean his patience extends to anyone with opposable thumbs. His family will not stop nagging him about finding “the one,” so when he runs into obnoxiously cheery Star again, he makes her an offer: He’ll pay her more than she would make doing her odd jobs if she’ll pretend to be his girlfriend at family gatherings. She can stop sitting in line waiting for someone else’s new phone, and he’ll get his family off his back. When the tension between them heats to a breaking point, Star’s desire for “no strings” is tested against Rafe’s staunch stability. They say opposites attract, after all….

I love witchy romcoms, so I’m excited to read Hex and the City by Kate Johnson next. It just sounds like so much fun!

  • Genre: Witchy RomCom
  • Pages: 335 pages
  • Publisher: One More Chapter
  • Publication Date: September 3, 2023
Something wickedly sexy this way comes… A laugh out loud witchy romcom for fans of Lana Harper and Erin Sterling ! Things you should know about Poppy: 1. She’s a witch 2. She has magical hair like Rapunzel from Tangled 3. She lives with Iris, the head of her coven, in a beautiful, ramshackle house next to Highgate cemetery 4. She works at Hubble Bubble, a magic shop in Covent Garden. Though none of it is real magic as that would be highly irresponsible. Until… …Poppy accidentally sells gorgeous celebrity magician Axl Storm, all six-foot-four of him, a cursed pendant. When all hell breaks loose can the guy with fake magic and the girl with real magic fix the chaos they’ve caused? Or will sparks fly both in and out of the cauldron?

One of these digital books is a blog tour book that was already scheduled, and one of the physical books is already scheduled, too, as I also have the digital arc. Believe it or not, I did put widgets in folders without taking them this week. I didn’t expect to have any books this week, but there you go!

What are you reading? Do you love it?

Grumpy-Sunshine and Fake Dating is bets trope combination. Hex and the City sounds fun. I’m reading Bear and the Nightingale and starting Her Radiant Curse.

Bear and the Nightingale sounds familiar. Hope you’re enjoying it and Her Radiant Curse!

I love Bear and the Nightingale Yesha. I think it was the best in the trilogy.

I hate that, I’ve had a bit of a slump with some books lately too, secrets never die sounds good though. 💕

It was a very interesting haul. Berkley just sends whatever they choose, so I never know what I’ll get.

Two bad about those two DNFs. Glad the Samantha Young book turned out wonderful. I’ve read a lot of her backlist and this is so different.

Enjoy everything else ahead of you, Tessa💜

I loved that book. It kept my attention so easily and is more than a fluffy romcom.

I had mixed feelings about Secrets Never Die. I almost grabbed Curious Tides but I’ve been curbing my Netgalley snags (I’m actually at 96%!) so I’m looking forward to what you think of that one. A great reading week, Tessa!

I’m trying to curb my NetGalley habit. It’s gotten so out of control but I’m reeling it in.

The Brother, by N V Peacock. It is full of drama, social media, and murder. Finding out her brother isn’t her biological brother she seeks to find her real mum and finds out she has four brothers. One of them is a serial killer. Through a genetic website, an forensics expert contacts her. She investigates all of them to see which one committed the murders. He finds out, but finds his sister a challenge. I love this book and am only a few pages to the end. I know who the murderer is, but won’t reveal if anyone else wants to read.

That does sound good. Glad you’re enjoying it so much!

Sorry about the two DNF’s. Back-to-back yet–Ugh! It’s rare when that happens, but I’ve been there and hate it. It does put you in a cynical mood when you crack open the next book.
You know I’m not much for YA, but I actually like the sound of Secrets Never Die. I’ll see what you have to say in your review.

I’m currently reading the Reluctant Demon Diaries by Linda Rios Brook. It’s a 4-book series, and currently I’m on book 3. I’m surprised by how very MUCH I’m enjoying it. 😆

    1. Tessa Pulyer Avatar

I love that title – Reluctant Demon Diaries. It brings so much to mind. I’ll have to mark that one down.

  10. Teri Polen Avatar

I also have Secrets Never Die but haven’t started it. So jealous you got Curious Tides – I was turned down. Happy Reading, Tessa!

    1. Tessa Pulyer Avatar

I don’t even remember how I got it. I hope we both enjoy Secrets Never Die!

An interesting non-request haul, Tessa. I accepted one widget, but 3 books that were pending were approved and 4 books for blog tours I had committed to also were available and added. I hope you enjoy all of these books.
