Do you agree that libraries should ban books?
(submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)
My Answer:
I don’t believe in banning books, EVER. I don’t know what else to say beyond that. No one is forced to read any book at the library or at bookstores, etc., so there is never any reason that I can imagine to ban a book.
Do you agree that libraries should ban books? (All opinions and the reasons why are welcome.)

August was such a busy month for us. To start with, my oldest daughter’s birthday is at the beginning of the month, and my husband’s birthday is at the end of the month so that alone makes it a busy month. Add in multiple visits from daughter #1 – the last one for over a week – and a visit from my mother-in-law for almost a week, and it becomes all sorts of crazy. But it’s all over, and I get a little peace and tranquility until December when we again will have a mother-in-law visit and an extended stay by my oldest daughter (hopefully) and her cat (to add to my two and daughter #2’s one). Not to mention all of the food planning/making, gift purchasing, and mailing. I’m stressing myself out just thinking about it. I need to just focus on the peace and tranquility.
I forgot to put my physical books that have been popping up in my mailbox and on my doorstep almost daily on my Wednesday post, so below is a picture of those books and the new book cart that I got to organize those physical books that publishers are being so kind as to gift me with because they would love for me to read and review them 😳 And many of them, I would truly love to read and review.

I also don’t like banning a book. There is no point of it, if a person wants to read the books they can get it anyhow. I hope you have relaxing September and you find time for yourself.
I don’t think books should be banned at all, it is someones work/opinion. Sounds like you have had a manic month, hope September is a little quieter for you 😊
Agreed, books should not be banned. September is shaping up to be rather busy for me, I hope you get to enjoy a quiet month yourself!
I have mixed feelings about book bans. All the books being banned seem to be based on a narrow opinion but I can see that there might be books that are so offensive that they shouldn’t be available in a public library. Love the new book trolley.
I don’t believe in book bans, but you did remind me that I do have serious questions/reservations/concerns about the lack of… judgement shown by some publishers in what they publish. That is to say, there doesn’t seem to be any quality control involved any more. That is to say, there was a time when the information that was published in nonfiction books in particular, had to be *accurate*. To the best of one’s ability, anyways. These days it appears it doesn’t. Anybody can say anything, and it doesn’t even have to even come anywhere near to resembling the facts that exist, or the current understanding of a subject. I’ve seen books published in recent years that I could’ve sworn, before I looked at the publication date, that they were written in the 70’s, or 80’s, given how biased, ignorant, and intolerant the information is, or just plain outdated!! And then, of course, there’s the consipiracy theory stuff!! … Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that consipracy theories have no place; I’m just saying I don’t need them thrust in my face, with very loud voices insisting every 5 seconds that they are the “real truth” and everyone and everything else is a lie, or a manipulation.
So… yeah, I wish there were better standards for what is published, and what is pushed as mainstream. I guess what I’m saying is that I wish I could trust more of the information out there that I find. It used to be a lot easier to do that. These days, you never know. Even reputable looking sources can turn out to be wildly inaccurate or biased.
And that’s without even mentioning the poor editing I see more and more frequently!! To the extent that I expect to find it in almost every single book, of any genre that I read! (Don’t get me started on the frequency of bad editing jobs I read in books these days! Everything from simple typos to huge grammatical errors that affect the meaning of the sentence, or paragraph profoundly!).
On the other hand, it’s a lot easier to find books on certain topics (e.g. spirituality that isn’t organized religion; trauma, mental health, and various other psychology subjects) that used to only be found in specialty bookstores can now be found in the big chains. So, that part makes me happy.
I don’t think any book should be banned. I’ll read anything and if you don’t think a book is appropriate for your child then just don’t let them read it! I got Phoenix King too, hope you love it!
I’ll never understand the concept of book banning. Don’t want to read a book? Then don’t. Why would I want to make my choice the only one for everybody else? Madness.
Enjoy this moment of peace and tranquility. You’ve earned it so I hope you find your zen space. Love that book cart!
There is NO reason for any library to ban books, at all, whatsoever. Porn? Graphic violence? Put them in an adult fiction area, but leave them on the shelves. Even conspiracy theory books and books by or about controversial people should be on the shelves, but labeled as such.
I have such strong feelings about book banning – I agree with you one hundred percent. If you don’t want to read it, fine. Don’t deprive others. Books should NEVER be banned. Also, I’m jealous over your ARCs. You have two I was turned down for on NG.
I am so jealous of some of those books! I have a book cart as well, I just wish I moved through the books a bit faster 😂
And I’m in agreement, books should *never* be banned, ever.
Have a great weekend Tessa!
I don’t agree with banning books…ever. If you don’t like the book, don’t read it. If you don’t want your kid to read the book, don’t let them. But, and I think this is important, I think that people should be required to at least read the books they want banned before getting their panties in a knot about them.
Totally agree about not banning books and I feel for you about those upcoming family visits. x
No, because even if you don’t like a book, you don’t have to read it. Having your family over can be fun, but stressful too.
I don’t think books should be banned either. I think that the majority of people wanting to ban books are parents that are worried about there kids reading something they don’t want them to read but that’s not the libraries responsibility. If they are so worried about what they read they should keep track of what they are getting themselves although I don’t believe in kids being limited in what they read so long as it’s age appropriate.
Wow, it sounds like you had a very busy month and must be looking forward to a break. I DO NOT believe that there should be book bans. Everyone should be able to decide what they want to read and parents should make that decision for their children.
Me neither. I’m a news journalist and I’ve made it my mission to cover these book banning events! It’s actually ridiculous.
