The Lost Gift to the Italian Island – I read the first book in this series and loved it! It’s a dual timeline with mystery, danger, and drama – all things good in a story!
Genre: Historical Fiction / Women’s Fiction
Pages: 320 pages
Publisher: Bookouture
Publication Date: December 4, 2023
Italy, 1943. With tears in her eyes, Giulia listens out for the sound of bombers flying overhead and thinks of the baby growing inside of her. Through the fabric of her lace dress her fingers touch the cold bullets carefully sewn into the seams. Luca might never forgive her, but she has to do this…
New York, present day. When Tori Coleman discovers that her mother was adopted, her whole world shatters. Jeremy, her boyfriend, wants to get married, but how can Tori commit when she doesn’t know who she truly is? The only clue to the identity of her biological family is a mysterious postcard with a photograph of an ornate wedding dress her grandmother Giulia made, which she’s told was gifted to a museum on an Italian island…
Tori arrives on Parissi Island, surrounded by turquoise Mediterranean waters, with the sweet smell of orange blossom filling the air. She soon finds the museum and learns that Giulia was Jewish, and secretly lived there during World War Two. She thought her grandmother abandoned her mother, but was she forced to leave and give up her child?
Just as she’s getting closer to answers, an unexpected call from Jeremy stops Tori in her tracks. As he passionately urges her to find out the truth, suddenly Tori wishes he were in Italy by her side, ready to propose again.
But then Tori is shocked to find bullets sewn into the lining of one of Giulia’s dresses and a notebook claiming she did something terrible during World War Two. Will the secrets in her family help her follow her own heart, or send her home from Italy with it finally broken forever?
An enchanting, unforgettable novel about desperate decisions in the dark days of war and the uplifting power of true love. Perfect for fans of Lucinda Riley, Soraya Lane and Victoria Hislop.
Jiddy Vardy by Ruth Estevez is a BBNYA entrant that I enjoyed an excerpt of. I’ll post a full review (of the whole book) on Friday as part of a blog tour with The Write Reads. It’s a story that features a pirate and the community he lives in called Robin Hood Bay in the late 1700s and the main character is a baby grown into a young woman who was left on a ship he stole once he made everyone jump overboard.
Genre: Historical Fiction
Pages: 312 pages
Publisher: indie
Publication Date: July 7, 2018
1779
On tumultuous waters a girl is born as pirates board the ship . . .
Jiddy Vardy is a survivor.
Rescued at birth, she grows up in Robin Hood’s Bay, a community which harbours a dangerous secret that could get you killed.
Always the outsider, with her dark skin and hair, at sixteen Jiddy is clever, brave and headstrong, soon risking her life and freedom to play her part in the Bay’s clandestine activities.
Then, just as romance blossoms and Jiddy finally feels like she belongs, figures from the past threaten to tear her world apart, and she has to decide where her loyalties truly lie.
A thrilling tale of one girl’s search for identity and love, set against a backdrop of wild seas, smuggling and violence.
Secrets of PEACE by T.A. Hernandez is another BBNYA entrant that I am reading this week. The excerpt I read early on was very good.
Genre: YA Thriller
Pages: 273 pages
Publisher: indie
Publication Date: July 24, 2016
The first action-packed dystopian thriller in the Secrets of PEACE series Perfect for fans of Divergent and The Hunger Games
Open your eyes. See the truth. Make a choice. After a devastating global war left America in ruins, the authoritarian PEACE Project rose to power, providing safety and stability in exchange for absolute control over citizen’s lives. Raised in the Project since infancy, assassin Zira is proud of her role in protecting society from threats to their peace and stability. She has always worked better alone, but after making a careless mistake on an assignment, she’s forced to work with Jared, the best operative in her unit. What starts as a reluctant partnership soon becomes friendship and then a budding romance as they work together and learn to rely on each other. But when misinformation causes a mission to backfire, Zira’s deepest loyalties and strongest relationships are tested in a place where even a hint of doubt can be perceived as treason.
The life she knows is falling apart, and nothing will ever look the same again.
Where did all of these books come from? I was genuinely surprised to see how many books I added to my NetGalley shelf in the last two weeks.😧
Okay, I’m going to have to check out that Tara Sim that’s on your Netgalley shelf!! I need to catch up with all my old arcs so I can start requesting new ones again. I hope you have a lovely week!
The first book would be something I would love to read. I am reading A Summer Fling. I love the female characters, who are all working in the bakery section. The only downside is they change between the five women. Sometimes in the same chapter, which makes it a little confusing to read.
Hi Tessa, I hope you continue to enjoy The Lost Gift to the Italian Island, it sounds wonderful. I am currently reading Anne of Windy Willows by L.M. Montgomery.
Blessings, Jessica 💌
I’m also reading The Lost Gift to the Italian Island and enjoying it. All your new books look interesting. It is a nice mix of genres. I hope you enjoy them all, Tessa.

Love the sound of Jiddy Vardy, looking forward to your review!
I really enjoyed it. For a historical fiction book, it reads at a good pace and the pirate angle is so intriguing.

In the same chapter? That would be confusing! But it does sound intriguing.
I love the female voices, they are real women with real life issues many women can relate to.
That’s a great haul!
I always forget to put the physical books – anymore, the physical books get posted on IG and the digital ones get posted here 🤦🏻♀️
That’s a haul, Tessa! I’m with Leslie – I need to check out the Tara Sim book.
It does catch the eye. I hope it’s good!
I saw a couple that looked interesting. I like the move toward illustrated covers for romance novels.
