How much do you value your book collection?
(submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)
My Answer:
I don’t even know what to say to this question. They’re books – their priceless, beyond value, and prized possessions – each and every one – the signed ones, the unsigned ones, the beloved, and even the never read and never will read. I even cringe when I see people making crafts out of the pages of books. I don’t know if I could do that – remove book pages. They hold that much value to me.
How much do you value your book collection?

Thank you for indulging me this week. It was a fun changeup and now I get to sit down and figure out what I’m doing for next year. Feel free to share what you loved, what you missed, etc… – constructive and positive 💕
Next week, I will just post two book spotlights/excerpts – thrillers from Harlequin Trade that I would have loved to read had I more time, so I hope you take a second to visit. Then, I’m taking a break from 12/20 – 1/2 or 1/3. My house will be full. I have Christmas to bake for, wrap for, and last minute buy for. And when I come back, if all goes as planned, I will have adjusted my schedule to a Sunday-Thursday posting schedule with some of the memes I tried out this week and some old memes plus book reviews. Lots of good bookish stuff!
Hope you all have a great weekend!

Love your new look and hope you keep it! Some of my books are very precious, but every now and then when I need more space I do give some away to charity shops, especially the ones I’m never going to read again.
I think I will. I like it too! Thank you! I donate and give away some copies too. I feel like I’m spreading the love.
I switched to digital formats years ago but my physical book collections are priceless. They are immortalized on bookshelves, not in any order other than by height. The displays are intended to inspire visitors to pull out a book and read it, nothing else. I have bookshelves everywhere because for 20 years, I bought mostly hardcovers.
About your blog…I can honestly say the approach you’re using right now is the one that has the strongest identity elements. Love how that board is used to communicate the post title in the banner and your blog name in the signature section. It’s a strong element.
Thank you so much, Jo! I so appreciate your thoughts. That truly do mean very much to me!
I value my books as much as I value a person I love. I don’t like sharing them and I take care of them as much as possible but i wouldn’t mind making craft from an old book i never liked or enjoyed. New look is amazing.
Very well said! And thank you!
My physical collection isn’t a money thing, its a sentimental thing because I only buy and keep books I’ve loved!
Exactly! My feelings to a tee!
My books are priceless. I know that I could probably replace all of them if they were destroyed in a fire or something but they wouldn’t be the same copies and it wouldn’t feel the same at all.
I feel the same, Janette!
Yeah, I had the same thought when I saw this question. Certainly a weird question to ask book lovers! As for making crafts from book pages, I saw a book recently about how to upcycle books that were no longer in readable condition into crafts, and thought it was a good idea (though extremely complicated when I flipped through it). I think I’d feel better about crafting a book that’s destined for the recycle bin than I would about trashing/recycling it. (I have been forced to put a few books there on a couple of occasions, and always felt horrible about it, even though it was the only option).
It’s such a strange question for book lovers but oh, well! I could see using a book that is unsalvageable for sure. I would be able to do that.
I don’t have a book collection any longer. I used to have books that I loved and kept, but as I’ve gotten older, I have to downsize and have given them away. Now once I read a book, I give it to someone or donate it. I love your new look Tessa. I love how creative you are.
I think that’s good too. Spreading the love of reading is always a good thing. 🙂
This is a tough one to answer. I love my books, some titles more than others. I have very old ones I cherish that I will probably never part with, and other (newer ones) that I have become attached to. At the same time, I simply can’t keep all those books on my shelf, so I have (over the years) given away numerous boxes of books. I’ve donated many to a local nursing home for their library and also to my local library for their annual book sale. I’m constantly weeding them out and changing the titles that are “keepers.”
Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas!!
I don’t mind donating or giving away some of my books and do regularly. I feel like I’m spreading the joy of reading. I’d love to start a Free Little Library outside my house. I get enough foot traffic that it could really work. I just have to deal with out HOA to make it happen which is such a big headache.
What a great idea—if you can get past the HOA!
A couple of weeks ago I would have said unabashedly I love my book collection… and then I had to move house and more mixed feelings developed 🙂
I hope you have a wonderful holiday!
I have some books I’ll never part with, but others I regularly donate to the biannual library sale. I had a friend who gave me a Christmas tree made out of book pages. She thought I’d love it. All I saw was a murdered book, lol. Merry Christmas, Tessa – enjoy your full house!
I’m going to more digital now, except for my signed books and some others. I’ll be moving later in 2024 so I need to get rid of some books (gasp). It’s gonna be hard.
I feel the same exact way!
