Goodreads Monday| Funny Story by Emily Henry

Welcome to Goodreads Monday, hosted by Budget Tales Book Blog! Goodreads Monday allows you to post about what books are on your “to read” lists, your progress on your current books and reading challenge, and any other Goodreads news!

Goodreads Monday Pick

I chose the newest book on my Goodreads TBR – Funny Story by Emily Henry because Emily Henry is one of my newer auto-buy authors. It comes out on April 23, 2024, and what I love most about Henry’s books is that they always have (at least to date) a bookish setting with at least one character in a bookish career.

Book Blurb

A shimmering, joyful new novel about a pair of opposites with the wrong thing in common, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry.

Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra.

Which is how Daphne begins her new story: Stranded in beautiful Waning Bay, Michigan, without friends or family but with a dream job as a children’s librarian (that barely pays the bills), and proposing to be roommates with the only person who could possibly understand her predicament: Petra’s ex, Miles Nowak.

Scruffy and chaotic—with a penchant for taking solace in the sounds of heart break love ballads —Miles is exactly the opposite of practical, buttoned up Daphne, whose coworkers know so little about her they have a running bet that she’s either FBI or in witness protection. The roommates mainly avoid one another, until one day, while drowning their sorrows, they form a tenuous friendship and a plan. If said plan also involves posting deliberately misleading photos of their summer adventures together, well, who could blame them?

But it’s all just for show, of course, because there’s no way Daphne would actually start her new chapter by falling in love with her ex-fiancé’s new fiancée’s ex…right?

Funny Story sounds as though it’s going to be just as good as her previous novels. I’m definitely looking forward to reading this one.

It definitely does! I can’t wait to read it 💕

Sounds like a good book. I still have two Emily Henry books on my TBR Shelves!

A great book goal! I have decided to stick fairly low and go with 85. I think that I will be lucky to make it but we shall see!

I like how you have a night time book and a day time book. I used to read three books at a time but since my second son in July my baby brain is an absolute nightmare and I am lucky to remember just the one book!

    Have a great week!

I’ve so been there myself. But then it changes so fast. In just a few short years, you’ll probably find yourself with multiple books again. They may get colored in but still. 🤭

Excellent. I lost the joy of reading when pregnant but got that back so 😂🤞🏻

Yeah I will have to read in secret 😜

It does doesn’t it? I didn’t realize I had read so many books already but I’m glad to have such a solid start.

Yep! This is high on my list, too.

I don’t read much romance these days, but this one sounds like fun. Nice choice, Tessa!

I think you’d like Emily Henry. The one book I read and loved was very family themed (more so than a romance) and the bookish setting – well, enough said on that. It wasn’t very spicy either- like one PG-13 scene if I remember correctly.
