After last week and then this week, I decided I’m just going to hide until it’s safe to come out. The stars have not been aligning for me right now.
Last week, I told you about the dentist scam/drama. Well, this week (as we are working on getting back the money from the dentist), a problem that we sent to the HoA many months ago, and they haven’t fixed yet, came to a head. Our bay windows (two) on the side of the townhome have dry rot, and the small roof over each of them needs repair. On Tuesday, we had heavy winds and rain, and while I worked at my desk in one bay window, one side began heavily leaking. Then, 30 minutes later, the other, which my computer is right underneath, began leaking heavily. As I was rushing around trying to find towels, I noticed that a window in the other bay window was leaking so bad there was a massive puddle under it. My poor hardwood floors. I did find enough towels and get it all mopped up, and my computer moved before any damage was done, but you can imagine how mad I am with the HoA.
And then Thursday, my oldest, the one with the dentist scam, got into a car accident after a college basketball game. She’s okay – her car – not as much, but we don’t know how bad it is yet. So, I’m hiding, and I’m not coming out until everything is fixed and nothing else is going wrong.
So, that was my week – how was yours?

I got one more from my most anticipated books this week – The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center, so that made me a happy little reader. Author Jessa Parra asked me if I would read her new ARC after reading and loving her debut novel last year, so I was excited to get an early widget to that from St. Martin’s Press at her request. And I’m always excited to read a new Mary Kay Andrews. I’ve loved every book I’ve read of hers so far. The other two books that round out my NetGalley Haul this week are new to me authors but they look very good.

Prime Video has been my streaming spot lately. I found two good shows: 007 Road to a Million is a 007-inspired reality competition show that we binge-watched. It’s very interesting, and the challenges and cinematography are so good. It’s done by the producers of the 007 movies (I think). And Reacher has just dropped its second season, but we had never watched it, so we’re working on the first season. It has a lot of promise. The actor is a bit robotic in the first episode, but we have hope for him.

Wow, I’m sorry to hear that all of you had such a rough week! It’s good that your daughter is okay but I hope the damage to the car isn’t that bad. I too would feel the need to stay inside after experiencing all of that, too but I hope the week(s) ahead will be much kinder to you and the family! You Know What You Did sounds awesome. I hope you enjoy all of these reads, Tessa 🙂
Thank you! I’m hoping for a redo to the start of my new year 💕
I totally sympathise about the windows as we’ve had a bad leak for a couple of years. Our landlady who is very nice, tried to get it sorted but the stonemason never came back. so we have to out containers and a towel down every time it rains from a certain direction, and remind her every now again about the situation. Glad you’re daughter is okay and hope the car can be fixed!
That’s exactly what happened – the wind was blowing the water just right. So sorry you’ve been dealing with similar for years. I’m hoping to hear something more definitive on repairs this week. 🤞
I am so sorry! I hope things turn around for you soon!!
Thank you! Me too!
I’m glad your daughter is ok! I’ve never had an HOA, but this one sounds like it needs a bit of a kick in the rear. Hope they get everything fixed! Here’s my SP: https://bonniereadsandwrites.com/2024/01/14/sunday-post-fuzzy-socks-are-the-best/
It definitely does! All the money we pay them, this should be a no brainer – yet it’s not 🤦🏻♀️
I’m glad your daughter is okay, it must have been difficult. I avoid the dentist, mostly because every time I visit it costs a lot of cash. Have a brilliant Sunday and rest of the week.
They are expensive. And thank you! Hoping this week will be much better!
I’m glad to hear you’re daughtеr is ok. Hope you manage to sort out the leaks. Hope this coming week is kinder to you and your family!
Thank you! Me too!
Sorry you had a tough week. I hope this one is better!
Thank you! Me too!
Oh what a week Tessa. What’s HoA? Glad your daughter is OK xx
A HoA is a Home Owners Association. It collects fees from everyone in the neighborhood regularly- monthly or yearly – to take care of common areas and since we live in a townhome – the outside of our home is considered a common area. In neighborhoods with detached homes, they take care of things like a pool or park. Do you have anything like that in the UK?
I don’t think we have anything like that here!
You’re lucky. It’s one of those things that’s good in theory but not in reality.
Yeah, that’s what I consider a tough week and don’t blame you for hiding out! Sending you positive thoughts and energy, Tessa💜 Rock on!
Great haul, too!
We are working on everything you mentioned last week. So we have made progress on that front. But geesh, it’s not being made easy for us by throwing all this extra stuff in our path. Will take all the positivity I can get!
Poor you, what a horrible week! Wishing you a much better week xx
Thank you! I’m hopeful though I still want to hide 🤭
I know what you mean about weeks when you just want to hide. I hope that this week is better for you and you get your windows fixed quickly.
Me too! I took a video of the water pouring down the window and to the floor and made my husband send it to them hoping it would make them take it more seriously. We will see!
That’s shocking. I hope they sort it quickly
OMG. I’m sorry you’ve had such a bad week. That’s horrible! I’m glad your daughter is okay despite the car being totaled (probably). I hope she has no residual problems in her head, neck, or back from the accident.
I hate HOAs so much. Before we moved a little over a year ago, we were also in a townhome under an HOA. They want so much money (our fees kept rising for no reason) and they do as little as possible. Hate them.
Sending you positive vibes and good thoughts!

That’s exactly what we have. I spend thousands of dollars per year on the fees but when something needs to be fixed – where are they? It’s just not right. I’ll take all the positivity I can get!
Oh wow I’m sorry y’all have had a rough week. I hope everything gets sorted out and fixed in a timely manner. I hope the weeks to come are kinder to you and your family.
I do too! I could use some positivity. This is not how I wanted to start off the new year at all 🤦🏻♀️
Oh, Tessa! You are getting slammed! I am so sorry for the week you’ve had.
I was relieved to hear your daughter is okay, but that must have been a scary shake-up for all of you. And the more I hear of HOA’s failing to step up and take care of situations that should be addressed quickly, the more I hedge on moving to a community with one (we are in the “soon” years of condo living). Praying that the days ahead bring better tidings for you and yours! 💕
We had an HOA with our previous home but it was a two story detached home (normal house) in a suburban neighborhood, so the HOA was just responsible for the pool and common areas. That was fine but living in an area where the HoA is responsible for the outside of your home (because it’s attached) is so annoying and expensive. I’m not a fan. Otherwise, living in a townhome/condo is much better than we expected. It was the closest home to my daughter’s HS – which is why we moved – and we thought long and hard about how we’d like living in an attached home – but all the things we were worried about (mostly noice) have not been an issue at all.
That’s good to know about noise. If/when we move, it will likely be to an attached home (a quad) in a 55+ community. Noise and HOA’s are at the top of our list as far as concerns. In my area there are some 55+ communities with detached ranch homes (that also have HOAs) and that’s also under consideration!
You totally sold me on the 007 show! My husband and I are about to start it right this second!! Have a good week of reading!!
My Sunday Post
Sounds like an absolute nightmare (as does having to deal with HoA’s, which I’m not all familiar with). My heart aches for those hardwood floors. But in the grand scheme of things, it’s far more important that your daughter is okay!
Maybe you’re just getting all the bad stuff out of the way now and the rest of the year will be an absolute breeze. Let’s hope, eh.
I sure hope so! Usually my life is so quiet but when it rains it pours.
I can see why you’re afraid to come out, Tessa, lol. Sure hope your HOA has done something about the windows by now, and that dentist situation is deplorable. Talk about lack of ethics. Sure hope you have a better week!
Oh, my goodness. What a terrible week and I do not blame you for going into hiding. Why is it that things like to explode all at once, from all sides?! I would be so mad with the HOA too. They are terrible when it comes to things you need from them but they are relentless with stupid crap they want. I’m glad your daughter is okay! Car accidents are always so scary. I’m glad you got the Center book! I did too and was so excited. I also downloaded the Andrews book to give her a go. It just looks so summer-y! I do hope you have a better week!! <3
You are so right about HoA’s. When we first moved in, we left our trash cans just outside the garage which is in the back of the house and got a really nasty letter from them before the week was out, but when something needs to be done – where are they?
Ugh, they are the worst! They have a hired person that drives around to pick out things to complain about. I contacted them a couple of times over the last year about a Little Library. They ignore me every time. They did send 3 letters and 3 emails about when the dues were coming up though. Unfortunately, there’s no way for us to avoid them in the city. I hope they help you now!!!
Oh, no! That is a lot of bad luck. Hope the windows get fixed soon. I love the banners on the tops of your posts. And have a great week!
Thank you! And I do too!
