What am I currently reading?
What did I just finish?
What am I reading next?
I just received a book box with Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera from Celadon Books, and I just have to read it. The description sounds so good! So it’s my new daytime book that I will start today. Night for Day by Roselle Lim I started last night, but I have a bad feeling that the pacing will be too slow for me.
Daytime book (physical book)
Genre: Murder Thriller
Pages: 352
Publisher: Celadon Books
Publication Date: March 5, 2024
What if you thought you murdered your best friend? And if everyone else thought so too? And what if the truth doesn’t matter?
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.
But now the phenomenally huge hit true crime podcast “Listen for the Lie,” and its too-good looking host Ben Owens, have decided to investigate Savvy’s murder for the show’s second season. Lucy is forced to return to the place she vowed never to set foot in again to solve her friend’s murder, even if she is the one that did it.
The truth is out there, if we just listen.
Nighttime book (digital book)
Genre: Fantasy
Pages: 352
Publisher: Berkley
Publication Date: February 20, 2024
Two people destined to be together, but to never see each other again, fight against the greatest odds in this powerful and moving fantasy novel by critically acclaimed author Roselle Lim.
Exes Ward Dunbar and Camille Buhay thought they would never see each other again. They had broken up to pursue their dream jobs on opposite sides of the country—her to New York City, and him to Los Angeles. But years later, they unexpectedly reconnect in London, where they are interviewing for similar jobs. The spark they feel when they meet again is palpable—the attraction comes back like muscle memory, reminding them of what they had lost. When Ward and Camille discover they both got the job working opposing shifts, they vow to give their relationship another try.
Ward starts the day shift and finds the immortal clientele unusual and dazzling. When he clocks out at the end of the day, he finds the door locked and himself trapped in the building. After a horrific first night shift contending with restless spirits and ghosts, Camille is also unable to escape. In their respective prisons, they discover that they’re able to talk to each other a few minutes before dawn. This fleeting encounter incites longing for each other, but their promise to be together feels impossible. Because they are caught in the middle of a war of the gods—and their choices will determine the outcome.
Keep Your Friends Close is a good solid psyc thriller. It’s fast-paced though I can’t say that it had any jaw-dropping twists. I felt like I could see them coming a mile away.
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Pages: 384
Publisher: Penguin/Putnam
Publication Date: February 20, 2024
How well do you know your friends?
Isolated and embroiled in a custody battle, Mary is desperate for a friend. So when she meets the charming and enigmatic Willa at a Brooklyn playground, their connection feels fated. But during a margarita-fueled moms’ night out, Mary shares her darkest secret about her ex, George, and the next morning Willa simply disappears. No calls, no texts, nothing.
Two months later, Mary’s divorce is almost finalized, and she’s trying to build a new life for her son in upstate New York. On her first day in town, she runs into Willa . . . only Willa’s name is now Annie, and she’s got an entirely new family in tow. When George turns up dead and Mary becomes the prime suspect, she has no choice but to turn to her only friend in town: Willa.
As coincidences—and evidence—pile up, Mary begins to wonder whether Willa had something to do with George’s death. Is the woman a friend or a foe, a confidante or just a con? Mary must uncover the truth before she loses everything.
I’m looking forward to Heartless Hunter by Kristen Ciccarelli. It looks very good and I’ve heard good things! The same goes for my next daytime book A Curious Beginning. Berkley sent it to me because it’s the first in a series that has its fifth, I believe, book coming out in early March.
Nighttime Book (digital book)
Genre: Fantasy
Pages: 400
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Publication Date: February 20, 2024
Enemies-to-lovers doesn’t get more high stakes than a witch and a witch hunter falling in love in bestselling author Kristen Ciccarelli’s latest romantic fantasy
On the night Rune’s life changed forever, blood ran in the streets. Now, in the aftermath of a devastating revolution, witches have been diminished from powerful rulers to outcasts ruthlessly hunted due to their waning magic, and Rune must hide what she is.
Spending her days pretending to be nothing more than a vapid young socialite, Rune spends her nights as the Crimson Moth, a witch vigilante who rescues her kind from being purged. When a rescue goes wrong, she decides to throw the witch hunters off her scent and gain the intel she desperately needs by courting the handsome Gideon Sharpe – a notorious and unforgiving witch hunter loyal to the revolution – who she can’t help but find herself falling for.
Gideon loathes the decadence and superficiality Rune represents, but when he learns the Crimson Moth has been using Rune’s merchant ships to smuggle renegade witches out of the republic, he inserts himself into her social circles by pretending to court her right back. He soon realizes that beneath her beauty and shallow façade, is someone fiercely intelligent and tender who feels like his perfect match. Except, what if she’s the very villain he’s been hunting?
Kristen Ciccarelli’s Heartless Hunter is the thrilling start to The Crimson Moth duology, a romantic fantasy series where the only thing more treacherous than being a witch…is falling in love.
Daytime Book (physical book)

The New York Times bestselling author of the Lady Julia Grey mysteries returns once more to Victorian England and introduces intrepid adventuress Veronica Speedwell….
London, 1887. After burying her spinster aunt, orphaned Veronica Speedwell is free to resume her world travels in pursuit of scientific inquiry—and the occasional romantic dalliance. As familiar with hunting butterflies as with fending off admirers, Veronica intends to embark upon the journey of a lifetime.
But fate has other plans when Veronica thwarts her own attempted abduction with the help of an enigmatic German baron, who offers her sanctuary in the care of his friend Stoker, a reclusive and bad-tempered natural historian. But before the baron can reveal what he knows of the plot against her, he is found murdered—leaving Veronica and Stoker on the run from an elusive assailant as wary partners in search of the villainous truth.
I’d not heard of Night for Day before now but that synopsis sounds amazing! I hope the pacing picks up though and that you end up enjoying it 🙂 Can’t wait to see your thoughts on it! I’ve also heard great things about Deanna Raybourn’s books, that series in particular, so I hope you enjoy it as well. Happy reading!
All those books sound brilliant. I am reading PIG, by Andrew Cohan. I was lucky enough to meet him at my writing group. His mum lives near our community centre. It was brilliant, and I have read up to chapter four last night. It is about a man, who helps look after a pig with a woman he can never marry. I am enjoying reading it.
I’ve also got Heartless Hunter – hope we enjoy it. I’m listening to What the River Knows right now and really liking the Egyptian setting and time period.
AAAHHH!! I am sooo excited to see Raybourn on here! I adore the Veronica Speedwell series. I emailed them and begged for the arc and they actually approved me! It’s actually number NINE!! haha, so you’ve got a great many books ahead. Although, they are really fast paced with the SLOWEST burn for the romance.. I adore them though! I can’t wait to see what you think of it!!

These all sound great and I love that cover for Night for Day.
I do too. It’s so pretty it almost an old-fashioned kind of way.
I think daytime books and nighttime books are a great idea!
I’m liking being able to get some of the physical books in by doing this.
