Currently Reading

I’m reading Have I Told You This Already by Lauren Graham (not shown) because I’m meeting her tonight! And I’ve just started If Something Happens to Me by Alex Finlay. I’ve been so excited to read another Alex Finlay novel!

  • Genre: Mystery/Thriller
  • Pages: 320
  • Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
  • Publication Date: May 28, 2024
From Alex Finlay, the author of Every Last Fear and The Night Shift, comes an action-packed new thriller, If Something Happens to Me. For the past five years, Ryan Richardson has relived that terrible night. The car door ripping open. The crushing blow to the head. The hands yanking him from the vehicle. His girlfriend Ali’s piercing scream as she is taken. With no trace of Ali or the car, a cloud of suspicion hangs over Ryan. But with no proof and a good lawyer, he’s never charged, though that doesn’t matter to the podcasters and internet trolls. Now, Ryan has changed his last name, and entered law school. He’s put his past behind him. Until, on a summer trip abroad to Italy with his law-school classmates, Ryan gets a call from his father: Ali’s car has finally been found, submerged in a lake in his hometown. Inside are two dead men and a cryptic note with five words written on the envelope in Ali’s handwriting: If something happens to me… Then, halfway around the world, the unthinkable happens: Ryan sees the man who has haunted his dreams since that night. As Ryan races from the rolling hills of Tuscany, to a rural village in the UK, to the glittering streets of Paris in search of the truth, he has no idea that his salvation may lie with a young sheriff’s deputy in Kansas working her first case, and a mobster in Philadelphia who’s experienced tragedy of his own. In classic Alex Finlay form, If Something Happens to Me is told from several distinct, compelling characters whose paths intersect, detonating into a story of twist after pulse-pounding twist. The story cements Finlay as one of the leading thriller writers today.

Just Finished

I would almost call Everything We Never Said by Sloan Harlow more of a romantic suspense that takes a very important look at domestic abuse with older teens and their significant others. It does have a jaw-dropping twist which I liked!

  • Genre: YA Thriller
  • Pages: 320
  • Publisher: Penguin Teen
  • Publication Date: May 28, 2024
Dark romance, high stakes, and plot twists abound in this paperback original YA thriller that’s perfect for fans of Colleen Hoover. It’s been months since accident that killed Ella’s best friend Hayley, and Ella can’t stop blaming herself. Now Ella is starting back at school and everywhere she looks is a reminder of her best friend, including Sawyer, Hayley’s boyfriend. When Sawyer offers an olive branch, Ella is shocked, but knows she doesn’t deserve his kindness. Then the school psychologist requires that Hayley’s closest friends join him for a grief counseling group, and Ella and Sawyer are forced together. After a few sessions, they start to grow closer, until Ella realizes something horrifying… She’s in love with her dead best friend’s boyfriend. As Ella discovers that nothing Hayley told her about Sawyer was true, she also sees something in him she finds irresistible. Perhaps it’s his grief. Or maybe his desires, cut short by tragedy. Or could it be something dark and twisted Ella can’t turn away from? This dark, romantic thriller is perfect for fans of Colleen Hoover and Laura Nowlin.

Blood on the Tide by Katee Robert is the second book in a series that began with Hunt on Dark Waters (which I read). I’m looking forward to continuing with these characters and all their great banter.

  • Genre: Romantasy
  • Pages: 336 pages
  • Publisher: Berkley
  • Publication Date: May 14, 2024
Set sail for adventure and love in the next spicy fantasy romance from Katee Robert, the New York Times bestselling author of the TikTok smash hit Neon Gods. As a bloodline vampire, Lizzie has never had a problem taking what she wants, and right now what she wants are the family heirlooms that were stolen from her, a ship, and a portal home. Unfortunately, even that short list is impossible to accomplish on her own—and her allies have bigger things to worry about. When they rescue a selkie, it’s the perfect solution to her problem. Lizzie needs a guide through Threshold and the selkie needs her skin back. Maeve didn’t choose to give up her skin—it was stolen from her. Now she’s in an uneasy partnership with a dangerous woman who seems more apt to kill than to share a kind word. It’s terrifying…and a bit alluring. Even though she knows it will end in heartbreak, Maeve can’t help being drawn to Lizzie. Unfortunately, the danger to Maeve’s heart is the least of her worries. The ship they’re seeking belongs to the Cŵn Annwn, and they don’t take kindly to people who cross them. They’re coming hunting, and not even Lizzie’s viciousness or Maeve’s knowledge will be enough to save them…

Hi Tessa 👋 I have just finished reading Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz by L. Frank Baum, which was a little disappointing. Now I have just picked up Agatha Raisin and the Curious Curate by M. C. Beaton. Happy reading! 😊

If Something Happens to Me sounds spectacular. Definitely a candidate for my reading radar.

I’m currently 3 books in on a 4 book series dealing with solar pulses that knock out all electricity and technology (The Restoration Series by Terri Blackstock). I can’t devour them fast enough, LOL!
