I’m really enjoying People in Glass Houses by Jayne Castle (Jayne Krentz). It’s part of a series but the author gives the new-to-the-series reader a primer in a few pages before starting the story. I liked this. It was exactly, what I needed to jump right in.
Genre: A mix of paranormal, thriller, mystery, romance, and a little SciFy
Pages: 320
Publisher: Berkley
Publication Date: May 7, 2024
Two people desperate for answers wade through smoke and mirrors within the alien world of Harmony in this new novel by New York Times bestselling author Jayne Castle.
His name is Joshua Knight. Once a respected explorer, the press now calls him the Tarnished Knight. He took the fall for a disaster in the Underworld that destroyed his career. The devastating event occurred in the newly discovered sector known as Glass House—a maze of crystal that is rumored to conceal powerful Alien antiquities. The rest of the Hollister Expedition team disappeared and are presumed dead.
Whatever happened down in the tunnels scrambled Josh’s psychic senses and his memories, but he’s determined to uncover the truth. Labeled delusional and paranoid, he retreats to an abandoned mansion in the desert, a house filled with mirrors. Now a recluse, Josh spends his days trying to discover the secrets in the looking glasses that cover the walls. He knows he is running out of time.
Talented, ambitious crystal artist Molly Griffin is shocked to learn that the Tarnished Knight has been located. She drops everything and heads for the mansion to find Josh, confident she can help him regain control of his shattered senses. She has no choice—he is the key to finding her sister, Leona, a member of the vanished expedition team. Josh reluctantly allows her to stay one night but there are two rules: she must not go down into the basement, and she must not uncover the mirrors that have been draped.
But her only hope for finding her sister is to break the rules…

I figured out the one big twist in The Image of You by Adele Parks very early and that made the rest of the story just kind of drone on. Still, I’m curious about the movie coming out next month.

Pages: 320
Publisher: Mira
Publication Date: Coming Out in Theaters in May 2024
Identical twins with a bond so strong nothing can tear them apart. Until…one of them meets her perfect man.

She’s seen her sister betrayed before and she’s sure Nick is just another man in a long line of liars. As Anna’s romance blossoms, the relationship between the sisters becomes strained.
Zoe stands at a crossroads – should she intervene and potentially break her sister’s heart in the process? Or should she let Anna learn her own lessons, regardless of how brutal they may be?
Zoe wants to protect her twin at any cost. But will Anna pay the ultimate price? In the game of love, lies may hurt, but honesty can kill.

Mary Kay Andrews has never let me down and I don’t expect her to with Summers at the Saint. I’ve been looking forward to this book ever since I got it!
Genre: Women’s Fiction (mesmerizing mix of mystery and romance” –Publishers Weekly)
Pages: 448 pages
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Publication Date: May 7, 2024
Welcome to the St. Cecelia, a landmark hotel on the coast of Georgia, where traditions run deep and scandals run even deeper. . . .
Everyone refers to the St. Cecelia as “the Saint.” If you grew up coming here, you were “a Saint.” If you came from the wrong side of the river, you were “an Ain’t.” Traci Eddings was one of those outsiders whose family wasn’t rich enough or connected enough to vacation here. But she could work here. One fateful summer she did, and married the boss’s son. Now, she’s the widowed owner of the hotel, determined to see it return to its glory days, even as staff shortages and financial troubles threaten to ruin it. Plus, her greedy and unscrupulous brother-in-law wants to make sure she fails. Enlisting a motley crew of recently hired summer help—including the daughter of her estranged best friend—Traci has one summer season to turn it around. But new information about a long-ago drowning at the hotel threatens to come to light, and the tragic death of one of their own brings Traci to the brink of despair.
Traci Eddings has her back against the pink-painted wall of this beloved institution. And it will take all the wits and guts she has to see wrongs put to right, to see guilty parties put in their place, and maybe even to find a new romance along the way. Told with Mary Kay Andrew’s warmth, humor, knack for twists, and eye for delicious detail about human nature, Summers at the Saint is a beach read with depth and heart.
People in Glass Houses looks really good. I’m glad you are enjoying the series! I love when authors give a primer for new readers so the audience can get up to speed.
Unfortunate that you figured out the twist early and the story deflated. Sometimes it doesn’t matter much. I’m sure Summers at the Saint won’t disappoint! Happy reading, Tessa💜
Ooh, I love that your current read gives a primer for what happened in the previous books. I wish more books had these, especially when there are long wait times between sequels. 😂 I hope you continue enjoying your reads, Tessa!
Hi Tessa
we are reading Jon Fosse again and William ‘The Romantic’ and just finished ‘The Wolves of Etertnity’ by Karl Ove Knausgård.
Thanks for your review. These are all book we usually don’t read. But interesting reading about books we don’t know.
Thanks

I’m listening to Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell – it’s compulsive reading, because it’s Rainbow, but the story is hard at times (subject matter is heavy).
Also reading Ana Maria and the Fox in print form, and it’s fun but slower going than I anticipated.

Enjoy!
It’s so annoying when you’ve worked out the big twist really early on. I wonder what the film will be like compared to the book?

I still need to read a book by Mary Kay Andrews!
The Image of You sounds like one I’d enjoy. Domestic Thrillers most always suck me in!

Now I need to know what the twist is in the Parks book. I’ll be looking out for the movie.
Too bad the Adele Parks book was easy for you to figure out. I am looking forward to Summer at the Saint as well. Enjoy!

I just finished Bride and I enjoyed it. Next I’m reading The lighthouse family by Firat Sunel.
