Sunday Post: Spring Breezes, Book Mail, and Staying Centered in the Chaos
Somehow, while the world has been swirling in a million directions—full of noise and nonsense—I’ve managed to stay calm and centered. It’s not always easy (hello, allergy season!), but this past week felt…refreshingly normal. A little work, a lot of tissues, and even more reading. Sometimes that’s exactly what I need.
Let’s catch up on life beyond the pages, shall we?
🌼 Life Beyond Books
This week has been the epitome of spring in full bloom—meaning my allergies have been throwing a party I didn’t RSVP to. Between sneezing fits and Claritin runs, I’ve been balancing work and winding down with cozy TV nights and warm mugs of tea. Nothing dramatic. Nothing chaotic. Just real-life rhythms, and honestly? I’ll take it.
📦 Book Mail!

It was a very good mail week (cue the happy dance at the mailbox). Here’s what arrived:
- The Last Sunrise by Anna Todd – Emotional, romantic, and already whispering “drop everything and read me.”
- The Break-In by Katherine Faulkner – I love a twisty domestic suspense, and this one is calling my name.
- Fast Boys and Pretty Girl by Lo Patrick – That title alone? I’m hooked. Southern grit and heart always get me.
Can’t wait to dig into all three!
📺 What I’m Watching
It’s been a reality TV renaissance in this house.
- Survivor – I’m always amazed at how this show still manages to be SO GOOD after all these years. The strategy, the chaos, the rice rationing—yes, please.
- The Amazing Race – Equal parts wanderlust and adrenaline. I yell at the screen a lot.
- The Wheel of Time – Streaming and completely enthralled. The world-building is epic, the costumes are a vibe, and Rosamund Pike? Iconic.
📚 What I’m Reading

- Next: Bridesmaid for Hire by Meghan Quinn – I’m ready for some romantic comedy sparkle and classic Quinn charm.
- Now: The Maid’s Secret by Nita Prose – Back in Molly’s world and loving the hush-hush secrets and sharp observations.
- Last: A Proposal to Die For by Molly Harper – A fun, slightly spooky mystery with a charming southern twist. Molly’s cozy mysteries are always such a delight!
📖 Mini Book Reviews

The Usual Desire to Kill by Camilla Barnes – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A sharp, funny, and bittersweet look at the chaos of caring for aging parents, The Usual Desire to Kill by Camilla Barnes explores the messy dynamics of an eccentric family in rural France. Told through letters, emails, diary entries, and vignettes, it’s a layered character study full of biting wit and quiet sadness. While the fragmented structure kept me a bit emotionally distanced, the novel still delivers an insightful, relatable portrait of sibling rivalry, long-buried secrets, and the deep, often unspoken desire to be seen and loved by those closest to us.

Julie Chan is Dead by Liann Zhang – (No stars) I was completely hooked by this book—dark, twisty, and packed with sharp takes on influencer culture, identity, and internet fame. The twin angle and cult vibes? So good. But around 75% in, things went a little too off the rails for me, and then it hit a major trigger: animal cruelty/death. That moment shifted everything, and I had to rush to the end just to get through it. A bold, intriguing read, but one I’d recommend with caution.

Love at Second Sight by F.T. Lukens – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A charming and thoughtful review that perfectly captures the whimsical and heartfelt spirit of Love at Second Sight! The reviewer highlights Cam’s lovable character arc, the engaging mystery, and the delightful supernatural worldbuilding with warmth and enthusiasm. It strikes a great balance between cozy and suspenseful, while also celebrating themes of self-acceptance and found family. A fun, feel-good recommendation for anyone craving a magical YA read with lovable characters and a dash of Scooby-Doo flair!
So that’s my week in a nutshell—books, reality TV, and a whole lot of antihistamines. If you’ve read any of the same books (or have tips for surviving spring allergies), I’d love to hear from you!
Wishing you calm moments, good reads, and tissues with lotion.

Allergies are horrible, although I have got a Spring cold. Annoying, as I broke up from school on Friday.
Loved Wheel of Time!
great
It’s good to have a week where nothing rocked the boat, except maybe the unwanted allergies. The Meghan Quinn book is also on my list. Have a wonderful week!
I’m sorry to hear about your allergies, Tessa. I know when I was in Florida, the whole month of March was car was covered every morning with yellow pollen. Even my nose was stuffed and eyes burning. I need to catch up on The Amazing Race, fortunately I can watch it “On Demand”. I hope you have another great week.
Allergies are terrible. I hope you feel better soon.
Sorry about your allergies, Tessa – they can make spring unenjoyable. I’m also enjoying Survivor this season. It surprised me how several of the contestants are more concerned about honesty and integrity rather than backstabbing. But there have still been some fantastic blindsides.
