The Sunday Post – April 13, 2025
Hey friends! 🌸
Another week in the books, and I feel like April is just flying by. I’m still getting used to writing “2025” in my planner, so the fact that we’re already halfway through April is… mildly alarming.
This week was a mix of productivity and procrastination (the usual, right?). I tore a ligament in my ankle a few years ago and my ability to traverse stairs never recovered, so I now have an ankle rehab plan that I’m trying to stick with —stairs are still tricky, but I can tell the strength is coming back. I even managed to go up a flight without holding the railing like it was my best friend. Small wins!
✨ Reviews I Posted on NetGalley This Week from my Extensive List of Overdue reads:
I have an embarrassing number of books whose publications came and went, so I’m working on catching up on them and whittling down my NetGalley list.
📚 [“The Library Game” by Gigi Pandian – 4 stars]
A cozy, fun locked-room mystery with Tempest and her magical Abracadabra crew. Less convoluted than previous books, and the villain? Delightfully diabolical.
📚 [“The Anatomy of Magic” by J.C. Cervantes – 3.5 stars]
Sweet, whimsical, and full of heart. While I didn’t totally swoon for the romance (not a second-chance girlie, sorry!), I adored the family magic and the “Encanto” vibes.
📚 [“Coram House” by Bailey Seybolt – 4 stars]
This one gave me goosebumps in the best way. A true crime writer, a haunted orphanage, and a mystery full of chilling atmosphere. Yes, please.
📚 [“Hangry Hearts” by Jennifer Chen – 3 stars]
Foodie descriptions = amazing. POV shifts = chaotic. Still, I appreciated the unique reimagining of Romeo and Juliet with a diverse, modern twist.
📚 [“Splinter Effect” by Andrew Ludington – 4 stars]
Fast-paced fun with “Rabbit” Ward, a treasure hunter with a knack for trouble. Great debut that blends history, action, and a little rivalry.
📦 Book Mail & ARCs:
The book mail gods were merciful this week! Only one new book – a cozy mystery from Berkley that I will share more about later.
🔮 Coming Up Next Week:
Here’s a sneak peek at what I’m working on:
- Reviews for One Death at a Time by Abbi Waxman, Bridesmaid for Hire by Meghan Quinn, and The Wind Weaver by Julie Johnson
- Easter basket goodies and Easter themed posts
- A little life update—maybe a mini-rant about how many strawberries I’ve bought this month. 😅
🫶 Life Lately:
Other than books and strengthening my ankle, I’ve been playing around with some new blog graphics (stay tuned!) and daydreaming about summer vacation.
Let me know what you’re reading, watching, or avoiding this week—I always love catching up!
Until next time,
💛 Tessa

Best of luck with your ankle therapy! I’m also looking forward to see your brew graphics. Heave a great reading week, Tessa💜
Glad the physical therapy is working! I am also trying to get late reviews off of my Netgalley list.
Hope your ankle feels better. I went to a writer’s conference yesterday, and I loved every minute.
I’m glad your strengthening plan seems to be working, Tessa. I like the the new Tempest Raj book is not as convoluted as the last one. I hope to read it soon. I also have Coram House so it’s good to see those 4 stars. I am watching Season 2 of 1923, which I am enjoying. I hope you have a great week.
Looks like a good week in books. Can’t wait to see new graphics.
Knowing you’re also behind on your ARCs make me feel a little better, Tessa. I’m still working on some from last fall, but I’m getting there. Hope you’re on the mend with your ankle.
