Book Review: Temple of Swoon by Jo Segura

Jo Segura’s Temple of Swoon is everything I didn’t know I needed: think Indiana Jones meets rom-com, starring a hilarious, snack-loving archaeologist who can outwit booby traps with her brains and sass. From the first page, I was pulled into a whirlwind of action, romance, and ancient mysteries that made this book impossible to put down.
🗺️ Let’s talk about Miri Jackson.
Miri is the ultimate heroine—brilliant, sarcastic, and always ready with a stash of snacks (her nickname “Pringles” says it all). Whether she’s navigating ancient puzzles or sparring with rivals, Miri is the heart of this story. She’s flawed and vulnerable in the best ways, and I found myself rooting for her at every turn.
✨ Now, about Rafe.
Rafe starts as the journalist saboteur we love to hate, but watching him and Miri go from bickering to bantering to full-blown partners-in-chaos is chef’s kiss perfection. Their romance is classic enemies-to-lovers gold, packed with snark, stolen glances, and moments of trust that had me swooning by the end.
🔥 Fast-Paced Fun!
The action doesn’t let up for a second. Booby traps, ancient curses, cryptic puzzles—it’s a thrill ride from start to finish. Jo Segura knows how to keep the tension high and the twists coming, with just enough humor to lighten the mood.
⭐️ Why 4 Stars?
While I adored Miri and Rafe, I wanted a little more depth in the supporting cast and the mythology of the titular Temple of Swoon. That said, it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of this wild ride.
📖 Temple of Swoon is perfect for readers who love:
- Action-packed adventures
- Banter-filled romance
- Bold, clever heroines

This does sound fun! Great review, Tessa💜
You know it’s not one of my usual genres, but I’d read this one just for the title, lol. Love that she’s a snack girl!
Great review. I quite liked Raiders of the Lost Heart and this one is on my list for sure.
