#BookBloggerHop | Theme Songs for your Favorite Books

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

Have you ever searched out theme songs for your favorite books?

(submitted by Julie @ JadeSky)

I don’t usually pick a song for my favorite books, but I’m starting to think I should. Every morning when I open Instagram, the first 20 or so posts that greet me are Tik Tok videos about a book. They look fun to do and are growing in popularity.

I don’t usually think of theme songs unless the book title is the title of a song or reminds me of a song. Then, I can’t get that song out of my head. Here are some examples:

“Silly Love Songs” by Paul McCartney & Wings
“it’s Raining Men” by The Weather Girls
I kept thinking about “Cruel Summer” by Banarama
“Better Together” By Luke Combs

Do you search out theme songs for your favorite books?

I don’t have a clue how to search song for book. I honestly am not aware of all English songs, sometimes even latest. I follow few artists only and we mostly listen Hindi songs.

It’s hard to match books and music in any language, I imagine, unless you are one of those people that just does it automatically.

Interesting question! I’ve only thought about because of the Rich Amooi books as well, especially Silly Lovely songs which is a fab track!

Authors make it easy for us to do that when they take their book title from a song title. And yes! A very good track! ❤️

Interesting question. Music inspires me to write and songs have inspired opening chapters of two books. I create playlists for all my novels.

    Fun post, Tessa!

I know a few writers who do that. I can totally see how that would set the mood for writing ❤️

I edit for a writer who wrote a series of twelve books, all of which were song titles. That made me think of those songs (obviously). And I know a few writers who include playlists with their books, so that brings those specific songs to mind as I read. But I don’t think I could read a book and say, “This is the song that goes with that book.” Maybe I’ll have to think about that.

I think some people do that naturally but, like you, I’m not one of those people. Though I can soundtrack my life – lol – and basically did as a teen ☺️

Well, that’s different. I think we all did that!

I don’t have theme songs for favorite books, but I usually have a playlist for books I write. I’ve never thought about having theme songs for books I read, but I can see how that might be kind of fun.

I think it could be fun. Challenging but fun. ❤️

Making playlists for books, or even choosing just one song, just doesn’t appeal to me at all. I like peace and quiet when I’m reading.

I don’t usually associate music and books together. Sometimes I will listen to music while reading, but not often. I think if I were more musical, or loved music more, I might seek out a theme song. But, I’m not wired that way I guess.

I’m totally with you and I agree. I think those people who are really into music and could find a song for any occasion would be more likely to do this.

It never, ever occurs to me to match a song with a book. However, I LOVE when an author includes a playlist with a book. Go figure. And I love those Music Monday posts a couple of friends post. When they connect to a specific book, I get it and enjoy that association. I just lack imagination on my own in this area.

    What a great question!

      I think I do too.

I was just thinking that the only time I really associate a song with a book is when the title is a lyric from a song. LOL I hadn’t thought of that when I was answering this week’s question. I like it when authors post playlists at the back of their books. It’s always fun to see what they were listening to while writing or what songs they associate with their characters and stories. I hope you have a great week!

I like to see authors’ playlist too. It is very interesting to see what sets the mood for the story.

Demi Lovato has a song “Cool for the Summer” that instantly came to mind! I love when authors pick out songs or song lists for their books. It adds so much more. Excellent choices, Tessa. 🧡

It does add to the book, I agree ❤️
