What am I currently reading?
What did I just finish?
What am I reading next?
It took the last four days but I’ve completed my bookshelves! It’s such a great feeling to see a project come to fruition. I’ll be sharing pictures on Friday!
I’m starting Thicker Than Water by Megan Collins today. I’ve enjoyed other psychological thrillers by Collins, and this one sounds very good to me. Hopefully, as your reading this, I’m enjoying it!
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Pages: 320 pages
Publisher: Atria
Publication Date: July 11, 2023
In this “twisty, propulsive thriller” (Robyn Harding, internationally bestselling author) from Megan Collins, two sisters-in-law are at painful odds when the man who connects them—the brother of one, the husband of the other—is accused of a brutal crime.
Julia and Sienna Larkin are sisters-in-law, connected by Julia’s husband and Sienna’s brother, Jason. More than that, the two are devoted best friends and business partners, believing that theirs is a uniquely unbreakable bond. To Sienna, her protective brother can do no wrong, and although Julia knows he’s not perfect, they’ve built a comfortable life and family together. Recently, Jason has been putting in long hours to secure a promotion at work, so when his boss is found brutally murdered—his lips sewn shut—the Larkins are shocked and unsettled, especially as local gossip swirls.
A few days later, Julia and Sienna’s lives are upended when Jason gets into a car accident and is placed in a medically induced coma. Worse, the police arrive with news that he’s the prime suspect in the murder investigation. With Jason unable to respond—and with Julia and Sienna working to clear his name—the two women find their friendship threatened for the first time: Sienna staunchly maintains her brother’s innocence, but as their investigation uncovers a complicated web of secrets, Julia is less sure she’s willing to defend her husband.
With her signature “moody and atmospheric” (USA TODAY) writing, Megan Collins has crafted a rich, gripping story that explores just how fragile our closest bonds can be.
Rune of Battle by G.N. Gudgion is the second book in an epic fantasy trilogy. I read and reviewed the first book last month. I’m enjoying this series. It’s loosely based on European early history when Christianity was taking hold and pushing out the ancient beliefs in gods and goddesses.
Genre: Epic Fantasy
Pages: 381 pages
Publisher: Second Sky (Bookouture)
Publication Date: July 13, 2023
Adelais is on the run.
And the kingdom of Galmandie has never been more dangerous.
In every town square, people whisper of a girl who brought down lightning on her enemies. The king has placed a huge price on Adelais’s head and sent troops to hunt her down.
Adelais flees high into the mountains. But winter is closing in and she cannot hide for ever.
Far to the north, there is a chance of escape. Her homeland has risen in rebellion against Galmandie. To reach freedom and safety, Adelais must cross many miles of hostile territory with inquisitors and royal soldiers always close behind.
If she is captured, Adelais will be burned as a witch. But if she learns to control the storm of magic within her, she could be the spark that sets the whole country aflame.
The Ghost Ship by Kate Mosse looks so good to me. It’s the third in a series but it’s supposed to be fine as a standalone. And I’ve loved other books by Mosse!
Genre: Historical Thriller
Pages: 496 pages
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Publication Date: July 11, 2023
Next in the #1 Sunday Times bestselling series, New York Times bestselling author Kate Mosse returns with The Ghost Ship, a sweeping historical epic of adventure on the high seas.
The Barbary Coast, 1621. A mysterious vessel floats silently on the water. It is known only as the Ghost Ship. For months it has hunted pirates to liberate those enslaved by corsairs, manned by a courageous crew of mariners from Italy and France, Holland and the Canary Islands.
But the bravest men on board are not who they seem. And the stakes could not be higher. If arrested, they will be hanged for their crimes. Can they survive the journey and escape their fate?
A sweeping and epic love story, ranging from France in 1610 to Amsterdam and the Canary Islands in the 1620s, The Ghost Ship is a thrilling novel of adventure and buccaneering, love and revenge, stolen fortunes and hidden secrets on the high seas.
Even with the holiday, I picked up 5 books. One is a physical book sent to me by Berkley and the rest were widgets sent by the publishers.
Great post Tessa, I love being able to read these again! Thicker Than Water sounds so intriguing, it somehow reminds me of a romance trope – but I love thrillers too so I think this would be perfect, ill definitely add it to my TBR! Great post!
If you liked that – from what I read so far, you will like this – style-wise. I like it so far (25%) but I’m starting to hope the plot will move a little more.
I finished a little while ago. I think you’ll like it. Once it reaches that 35ish % mark, it really picks up and pulls away from that The Family Upstairs style of writing. I didn’t guess the who and why correctly and the very end was surprising.

Great selection of books! Thrillers are particularly enjoyable during this time of year. Happy reading!
I do love a good thriller!
I like the look of thicker than water, hope you enjoy all of your reads 💕
So far, I’m liking it very much!

It’s great so far and I’m glad to see you back!
Oh, I hadn’t realised that the next Gudgion book was out so soon. I’ll have to look out for it. Happy Reading.
I didn’t either. When they asked me if I would be on the blog tour, I thought it would be much further out but not so much. It comes out on the 11th.
I requested it and got approved today. Another one for my mammoth list of Summer releases 😀
Awesome! Hope you enjoy it too 😊
Good to know that The Ghost Ship can to be read as a standalone as I love her books!
I’m glad too. I didn’t realize it was book 3 🫣. They really should post series # on NetGalley.
I love the covers of the books in your haul, I hope you enjoy reading them all. I’m also intrigued by Thicker Than Water so I hope you’re enjoying it.
I am enjoying it so far. It starts right off with the murder and the car accident, so it pulled me In instantly.
Runes of Battle looks cool! Enjoy your current reads.
It’s really good. Rune magic is fascinating.
I’m curious to hear what you think of Thicker Than Water. It’s going to be a great reading week for you.
I think so. 😊
I’m trying to decide whether to wait on the Collins book or accept it for audio review. Are you enjoying it so far?
The writing style is very much like The Family Upstairs, did you listen to that one?
By Lisa Jewell? Yes.
If you liked that – from what I read so far, you will like this – style-wise. I like it so far (25%) but I’m starting to hope the plot will move a little more.
Now I’m at 35% and it’s starting to really pick up now 😂. This is like a play-by-play of my reading experience.
It’s very much appreciated!
I finished a little while ago. I think you’ll like it. Once it reaches that 35ish % mark, it really picks up and pulls away from that The Family Upstairs style of writing. I didn’t guess the who and why correctly and the very end was surprising.
That’s the push I needed! Many, many thanks💜
Tessa, I hope you are currently enjoying Thicker Than Water and I like the sound of The Ghost Ship. Happy reading! Here is my WWW post for this week: https://thebookwormchronicles.wordpress.com/2023/07/05/%f0%9f%93%9a-what-i-have-been-reading-june-2023-wwwwednesday/ 🙂
The Ghost Ship does sound so good 😊
Have a happy reading week!
You too!
Great books, I am still reading A Murder Inside.
Hope you’re still enjoying it!
I am, I just need to start reading it.
I’ve also read Mosse books and almost requested that one, but when I saw it was a series I passed. Look forward to seeing your review, Tessa!
I looked at a few reviews that started with “I haven’t read the other books in the series” and they said it read like a standalone, so 🤞🏻
Evidently I didn’t read far enough, lol.
Rune of Battle sounds interesting. I’m reading Fractal Noise and rereading The Priory of The Orange Tree.
I don’t think I’ve heard of Fractal Noise.
